I have more lights than guns, so I guess I find them pretty important. One on the keyring, one in my work bag or on my belt, all the kids have one or more each, my wife has two of my nicer lights (so she can check on the kids at night).
Have a large maglite that I made a shoulder sling for. I take that when I have outdoor chores after dark. Very handy. Over the shoulder flashlight holder | EricsProjects |

Not to hijack a thread or anything....
OK, im not a LEO, but I love nice, bright, LED lights, and im looking to put one in the truck for occasional use. I am currently looking at the TK 11, but I would like a light with a strobe function.
Here is the question: do you (as an LEO, or not) place a higher value on the strobe function, or the lumens of the light. Keep in mind I would like a tactical light for this question. Thanks. Andy |

I like flashlights. Since I've been working day shift for a few years now, I only carry three or four flashlights on me or in my vehicle. When I was working night shift I had at least two and usually three on my person and another one or two in the car.
I carry an E2DL in my pocket almost every day , a SF Executive (?) in my gear bag, and a 6P in the vehicle along with the 5.11 Light For Life we're trying out now. I have a G2 mounted to my M4. I do not mount a light to my handgun. I also have a couple extra cheap flashlights in my vehicle for "loaners". I carry a handful of spare 123 batteries and an extra head unit in my gear bag in the neat case Sure Fire makes...Rechargeable flashlights are great, but the seem to go dim at the most inopertune times, that's why I always carried at least one extra flashlight on my person in addition to the rechargeable Mag-Light that was assigned to the car... I will not buy anything other than an LED light these days, they just make so much more sense now... I have never really worked with a handgun mounted light, I have always trained with the flashlight techniques instead. A lot of my co-workers use the gun mounted lights, I've just never spent the time to really learn it....I have also heard some horror stories about a local department that had to put into policy that the weapon mounted light could not be used to perform FSTs (Field Sobriety Tests...where a flashlight is often used to look at the eye reaction during a portion of the test.....No joke...) Even in daylight situations I think a flashlight is tremendously valuable...I can't tell you how many times I have had to go into dark buildings during the day when a flashlight was absolutely mandatory, also I have "loaned out" my extra flashlights on a number of occasions to those less prepared... |

Not quite per the pole:
One of my lights attaches to at least one of my handguns. I usually do not mount it while carrying a handgun concealed. I usually do mount it when not carrying a handgun openly or at home. I EDC a separate light from the one discussed above.

I feel just as naked without my flashlight as I do without my gun!

G21sf w/GTL10 Taclight for the bedroom safe.
I also EDC a Surefire for everywhere else when I might see lowlight conditions. Poll should have a "More than one of the above" choice.

I voted light attached, I would rather have my other hand to steady and help aim the weapon.
