Kimber Ultra Carry II Magazine help
Finally picked up my Kimber last week! I have not had a chance to go to the range yet, but I ran into an issue with the mags. The factory mag won't eject properly, and It will not engage the slide lock when I pull the slide back unless I manually lock it with my thumb. So..... I bought 2 Wilson Combat mags. They lock the slide, and eject correctly, but I cannot disengage the slide lock while the wilson mag is in the mag well. The guy that works the gunshop was unable to do it as well. Is this normal? Anyone have any recommendations? It is a Gander Mountain exclusive Kimber Ultra Carry II with Crimson Trace laser grips. Eldorado has the exact same gun, and he has posted pics (search "special order kimber ultra carry II" to see them).

You can't disengage the slide release with a full or empty mag?
If it's an empty, the mag springs are still to tough, work the springs by loading unloaded/leave loaded and you should be fine. |

I have a UC2 as well & thankfully have none of those issues (although i just found out i need a modified slide stop). What i would do is call Kimber, they were very helpful to me. Because i think there is an issue with your pistol not the Mags. since none of them work properly.....Good Luck & let us know

I don't think so, my dad had the same issue with one of his Colts after I gave him some new Wilson mags. I've also seen a lot of people at gun shops that can't close the slide on an empty mag using the slide release on a new gun because the mag springs are still too stiff. Aside from that Kimber factory mags (non Tac-mag) are garbage, while he might have an out of spec slide stop as well, this sounds more like a mag problem OR another thing the OP should check is with the gun empty and mag removed, look in the mag well and see if the grip screw bushings/or grip screws are threaded too far into the grip frame, sometimes the mag can hang on them if they are over inserted.

All,
Thank you all for your help! This morning I loaded the mags to see how it would work. When the mag is empty the slide lock engages firmly, unless I am mistaken this is a good thing. With the slide lock engaged, I ejected the spent mag and loaded another loaded mag, and the slide stop disengages like it is supposed to, with my thumb. |
