One thing to keep in mind with electronic muffs is that they can either use "compression" or "clipping" technology.
"Compression" lowers the volume of loud sounds (gunfire), while allowing normal volume sounds to be heard. OTOH, "clipping" technology shuts down the electronics completely (thus relying on the muffs themselves to buffer the sound). The off cycle is momentary, but it can get annoying, and if there's lots of gunfire going on, the muffs are pretty much off all the time.
Peltors use clipping; ProEars use compression.
On a side note; not exactly electronic, but I have a pair of SureFire EarPro ear plugs. They are extremely comfortable (I've worn them for hours) and do a good job at keeping gunshot noise out while allowing other sounds to be heard (moreso than regular earplugs do).
