I always have a little folding pocketknife with me. It only has a 3" drop-point blade, but I've used it for everything from cutting to prying, to removing stubborn o-rings (I'm a plumber). I don't know if the little knurled knob on the spine makes it assisted opening, but it can be deployed in short order.
3" may not seem like much, but if need be , it can reach the kidneys/renal artery, carotid/jugular, or under the ribs to the diaphragm. Heck, the femoral artery is even reachable, but not my first choice of targets. Last edited by PatP; September 30th, 2009 at 11:49 PM.. Reason: added pics |

I've always got some kind of tactical knife even if I don't have a gun!

in all honesty unless you're trained by .gov to use a blade in the employment of taking lives or self defense you're probably better off picking up a pot pan or pipe. |

I always carry a knife. I carry a pistol when ever legal. The knife is more a utility device most times but any port in a storm?
A knife is better than nothing.

My employer has just decided to crack down on weapons. Now almost everything you don't absolutely need is called a weapon. In order to carry a knife as part of your job security must write you a permit saying it is absolutely needed in your assigned job function. The cafeteria only has plastic knifes. Rumor has it they are even searching employees at some facilities here in Colorado. I luckily am at a facility owned by another company and I hope I come under their rules which allow up to 4" knives. But we probably have some rules of conduct when representing the company. I would only be in trouble if someone rats me out.

I have to disagree. An untrained person with a knife is no worse off than an untrained person with a pot, pan, or pipe. Gov't training is certainly not necessary to learn to effectively employ a knife.

Always carry a knife in addition to the gun. The two go together like peas and carrots.
