My current favorite is the Akoray Cree Q5-WC. It can take a single AA, but to really blast, you can also buy a specialty rechargeable one called a 14500.
Nice features are that it has 3 programmable settings (so you can choose brightness for each level, strobe, and SOS...bit of a pain to program, but once it's set, I've just left it alone), and although probably not the manufacturer's claim of 200 lumens, it's pretty darn bright. It's completely replaced all my other lights since it can be low enough to not blind yourself, or high enough to blind others (or yourself if you're not careful). Nice little review on candlepowerforums Also, the price is a good factor as well. Great performance for under $20. |

A lot of good suggestions on flashlights and I'll put my 2 cents in too. Consider a basic flashlight with a momentary on feature. Also consider the power source (AA, AAA, CR123). O-Light, Fenix, Surefire and there are a lot more companies that produce great, small flashlights.
Strobe and multiple level lights are nice but not necessary when you are in a situation where you need a light and you need it NOW! I stick with the K.I.S.S. principle when using flashlights (or tactics) in fast evolving, highly stressful situations. I learned alot from Candlepowerforums and it enLIGHTened me on flashlights. I know a lot but the forum members know A LOT more and they are very helpful.Personally (on duty) I carry a customized (635 lumens) Surefire Backup and a customized titanium flashlight off duty. Flashlights are like the 'ol 1911...you can get a basic one that'll shoot a beam of light or you can buy one customized or customize one to your liking. If you're not careful you'll find that it'll become an addiction. "Hello, I'm Dennis and I'm addicted to firearms, knives and flashlights." DH |

Depending on what you want the light to do, and how set you are on AA batteries, I suggest & recommend either a Fenix L1D-CE or Olight T15, for AA battery light, OR, if you like CR123 batteries, and want the option of using rechargeable lithium with it, look at the Novatac lights. You can get the best deal on those, at lighthound.com and will get good service there too.
My EDC light is a Fenix L1DCE and my nightstand light is the Novatac 85T. |

check out a Stream Light Stylus Pro or Stream Light Stylus Pro Mini they're cheap, tough and work great.

Go to Target. They have a $25 1AA LED light that is plenty bright for me and super small. It's made by River Rock.
