Bullet Casters
How many of you cast bullets? Whats your favorite to cast?
I cast most of the common pistol calibers and some rifle. I find myself casting 230 LRN .45acp and .44 Keith Style SWC the most.

I cast for .380, .357 Magnum, 10mm, 45 Auto, 375 H&H Magnum, and 45/70.
I shoot more 10mm than anything. I cast 175gr TC and my custom design 220gr SWC. |

Already there. Same name.
![]() Just got a 6 banger Lee from one of the groupbuys there. Its the LSWC 158 Keith for the .38/357. The 6 cavity molds will crank them out in a hurry.

Nice.
Exellent pictures too. Looks like it ought to do well. Did you make it or just design it?

PM sent.
Got it from a guy over on CB. He designed it and had Lee make it. WW drops at 230gr, 50/50 WW/lino drops at 220gr, nominal is 225gr. So far I only ran with 5gr WSF and 6gr BD. Going up a bit. Was a SWAG. Feels like a 45's recoil. Will do more testing. |

Good stuff!
I have not done a lotta casting for a while but used to do a lot - and have moulds for a lot of options. I'm too lazy right now to check all the numbers but cover stuff like ....... 125 Lee LRN for 9mm, sized .356. Lyman 158 LSWC, plain and gas check versions - lovely bullet. Lyman 158 LRN - that was good for loading .38 Spl ammo for practical revo - helped speedloads a lot. 158 6 cavity Lee SWC - not up to Lyman quality but great for churning out plinking stuff in volume. Lee 158 full WC - don't use that much now. .44 Mag Keith (Lyman mould) - another fan here! Got a new .44 Lyman to throw SWC 300 grainers - yet to use that. Also a new Lyman to throw 459's 405 grain for 45-70. Coupla Lee moulds for rifle stuff (gas check) - .303 and .308 ....... unfortunately the .303 one seems to fall short of .314 and needs to throw larger for my rifle. Lyman 230 grain LRN, for .45 acp. Also have a Lyman mould for .577 Minnie - modified insert to increase hollow base. Lee mould for .50 cal lead Minnie. That's most I can remember without digging around!

Molds I have are:
Lee 401-175-TC (10mm) Lee 401-225-SWC (custom design above-10mm) Lee 452-190-SWC (45 Auto) Lyman 375449 (375-264gr FNGC-375 H&H Magnum) Lyman 378674 (378-335-RN-375 H&H Magnum) Lee C459-500-FN (45/70) RCBS 405-GN (45/70) RCBS 38-90-RN (380 Auto) Lyman 358627 (358-215-SWC-GC dual crimp groove-357 Magnum) Few more on order, a 10mm, 357 Mag, and 256 Win Mag. Contact Lee about opening up the 303 mold. Lyman will do it for free. Don't know about Lee. |
