Questions on polygonal rifled barrels

Why can't I use lead? Are there any other reloading differences then "standard" rifled barrels?

My wifes G30, and my HK both have a polygonal barrel and we reload lead all the time and use it practice. We do need to however clean it real good before reloading with our carry ammo.

The rifling is shallower than normal rifling. If you get any leading it will plug up the grooves in the bore and act like a blocked barrel. Not good.

With a poly barrel it is cut that way to seal the bore better with jacketed bullets. That is why most poly guns get better velocities with shorter barrels that normal cut rifling.

You can shoot lead in poly barrels. You need to clean more often, use a harder alloy, and a few other tricks. I've shot a few rounds in my stock G30 barrel but sold it and now run a KKM full time for lead or jacketed.

ETA: Other than the depth of rifling there is no other reloading differences between poly and cut rifling.
