Boolits are cast bullets. Bullets are normal jacketed bullets.

There is a forum for people who cast bullets. It's called castboolits.gunloads.com. Great site.

Usually people who use the term 'boolit' are also members of that forum. Sort of like a secret handshake. I don't buy bullets, I make my own boolits.

Wherever I can get the best deals. I never buy powder or primers and have them shipped because of the #$%& Hazmat charges.

LOL...You learn something new every day....

Okay to throw a question in here...I used to reload with a buddy who has since moved away with all the gear. I am trying to make a case to the wife that it will save money to buy the gear. What is a reasonable price to reload .45 ACP range rounds per 100?

Local gun stores have the best deals around here for powder and primers. I shop online for bullets. I use Zero Bullett Company/Rose Distribution and National Bullet Company. But bullets have gone up!!! So it looks like I will get the cast lead pot out. Brass I pickup after range day at work.

Primers are about 2 1/2 cents each,Powder can range from almost nothing up to a couple of cents(figure about a penny) and the cost of the bullet can run from a dollar apiece(Barnes DPX) to home made cast that will cost you about a nickle each. Brass is easy to come by at most ranges, but if you buy it, once fired shouldnt cost more than another nickle or so. Keep in mind that .45ACP brass will usually last until you lose it. Time spent reloading has no value as it is a hobby you will enjoy. Might even keep you from the TV for a while.

I cast my own and load 45 Auto for $40/1000 rounds. A more reasonable guess is reloading using jacketed bullets will save you at least 50% over factory.

TJCONEVERA.COM has excellent prices on Winchester jacketed bullets. Price includes shipping.

+1 on TJCONEVERA great people, great service, and great prices

Powder: Gun show or Bass Pro. Unless your buying kegs online it's not going to make up for the hazmat fee,

Primers: Gun show or if I'm super desperate Bass Pro. If you buy in bulk online you can even beat the hazmat fee and get it cheaper than anywhere else.

Cases: Factory ammo I have bought in the past and then collected the brass, or clean up after others at the range.

+1... I have purchased a few thousand rounds of both 9mm and .40S&W FMJ bullets, and probably will make some additional purchases in the future from them.

Most of my stuff has come from Midway, as far as hard parts and bullet components. Although they are pretty expensive to get powder and primers from. I try to get that stuff locally, but lately that has been hard to do. One of my clients that just got his FFL, is selling reloading stuff now, he will be in on Monday, so I am going to have to see if I can use him for a source.
