Accuracy
For loading .40 and .45, what do you consider one of the best powders that help with accurate shooting if it's possible?

That is purely subjective. I use AA#5, but just because it works for my stuff dosent mean that its the best for yours.
The only way to really tell is through trial and error. Use pulbished reloading dataand start there. Keep good notes and record everything. Shoot mutiple groups with the same load and record it. Then try another load. Eventually one will stand out above all the rest. If its at all possible, use a versatile powder. Accurate Number 5 is great for most pistol meduim powered loads. You might try Bullseye or Unique as they are as versatile.

VV powders are supposed to be good for accuracy. Too spendy for me, and my loads are plenty accurate.

Don't know about the.40 but tinkering around with a .45 and a 200 grain H&G cast bullet over a charge of Bullseye can be very gratifying. As little as 3.5 grains of Bullseye (if the gun will cycle) makes a nice load for the paper targets. Such a load makes a 1911 cycle like shucking a Winchester Model 12 pump gun and sounds about the same to, now that I think about it.

W231 or Clays, but it is really subjective. Primers, bullets, powders, all shoot differently in different barrels at different external temperatures. Work up some loads, try 'em, and tune 'em. That's part of the fun of reloading.

Try 4.5gr of Promo or Red Dot behind a 230gr. lead round nose. It is my range load and works very well for me.
My load to duplicate my carry ammo is somewhat heavier and uses Unique behind a 185gr jhp. |
