I was 12 or 13 when I started if my memory servs me right. Shotgun shells were 7 or 8 cents EACH and I only made $1 for mowing a lawn. If I wanted to hunt with my Dad I had to find a way to get shells cheaper. First loader was a Thalson hand loader that used bathroom scales to set the wad pressure. Powder (Red Dot) was bought for less than a dollar a pound, primers .50 a hundred and shot was something like $2 for 25 pounds. Wads were cut out of cardboard with a hole punch. The crimp die on the Thalson was a POS, so Dad found me an old roll crimp device somewhere. No such thing as plastic shells back then guys.
Metallic loading started when I got my first .38 pistol at the ripe old age of 16. Now pushing 70 pretty hard. |

I got a 12 gauge Lee Load-All (remember those?!) for Christmas when I was 16. Started metallic. (.38/.357, .45, 9mm, 5.56mm) in my early 20's but stopped at about 30 or so. Just haven't had any real inclination (time) to get started again......
....maybe some day. |
