Hornady XTP 185 gr. 45 ACP COL?
Hey all,
I bought some XTP JHP bullets and was looking for reloading data. I noticed the VihtaVouri manual lists the COL as 1.130 and the Hornady manual I have lists the COL as 1.230. I am thinking the Hornady one is most likely correct. I plan on putting 5.2 grains of VV N320 behind some of them and 5.5 behind the other half. The VV manual lists 5.2 and 5.9 as min/max. I bought a pound of AA#5 and made some FMJRNs, but that powder was dirty as hell. Hence the experiment with N320. Anyone have experience loading these? |

Both are correct. Use the OAL that is supplied with the data. If using VV data, use their OAL. If using Hornady data, use their OAL.
I don't have the VV manual, just Hornady. I run 200gr XTPs to 1.225". |

Thanks. I was wondering about that. 1.130 just seems kinda short.
If interested, you can download the 2008 VV guide from here. http://www.lapua.com/uploads/media/I...oguide2008.pdf |

Well, 1.13 buries the neck of the bullet inside the case. I compromised and went with 1.200.
I tried a couple of charges at the range today. 5.2 grains of N320 and 5.5 grains. The 5.2 charge was very mild and made for very quick target re-aquisition. The 5.5 grain charge wasn't much more snappy, but seemed to shoot more accurately. I might try 5.7 next. I think this would be about perfect. Oh yeah, nice and clean burning too. The 185 grain XTPs were a nice relief, recoil wise, from the 230 grain Hydrashocks and S&B RNs I was comparing the loads to. Now, off to smell some Hoppes. |
