Reloading .45 ACP Page
Looks like 4.3G of Clays, among other loads, should do the job, but I think those are clocked out of a 5" barrel IIRC. Hope that helps. Peace, Pete Zaria.

Go with Accurate #5. It was designed specifically for the 45 Auto. It meters like sand, very accurate in powder measures.
I don't like to use the standby quick powders like Bullseye, Clays, 231, etc. I like the newer powders like HS6, Longshot, WSF, and #5. |

Yep, no problem at all. Note on that page it says those are near max loads.
I'd start a few tenths of a grain under the recipe, clock those, move up a few tenths of a grain, repeat until you meet the power floor with the 3" barrel. I've never actually reloaded for .45 before (only .38 and .357) so take my advice with a grain of salt ![]() Good luck, and good for you for getting your son involved with IDPA that young - I didn't even know what it was for some years after that age. I wish I would have, I'd probably be a heck of a lot better by now ![]() Peace, Pete Zaria

Aren't they making XDs shoot in ESP or CDP? Something about a BATFE ruling calling them "single action." I don't think everybody agreed on that, but I think it fell that way.

i have shot my XD in several matches, and it was in SSP; As far as the .45 not being competitive, I wouldn't worry about that either. I whip the pants off of plenty of 9mm guys out there who are shooting those guns because they never learned how to practice through recoil.
As far as loads are concerned, try AA2 for your loads. AA5 is nice, although it is really dirty compared to AA2; AA2 is a fine powder and meters as well as 5, but it is 10 times cleaner and makes an awesomely consistent target load. I think for my 200 grain loads I use 4.5-5.0 grains. Check the loading data, but I usually run mine around 850-900fps to stay well above the power floor to compensate for any low ball rounds.

The day IDPA sets its standards by what ATF says it would be a sad day for Bill Wilson

Miggy, I just got back from prowling around over at the Brian Enos site. Looks to me like IDPA still does call the XD a single action gun. I saw a 2003 and 2007 reference to it. Most folks don't agree.

The XD is clasified in the esp and CDP divisions. It can be shot in CDP when using 8+1 in the magazine.
