Question for the experienced!

i have been reloading for my 40 cal XD and noticed that when my mag runs empty that it does not catch and stay open. Could that be a sign that my load is a little on the low side or would you think the mag springs are weaking? It does the same on both mags and I am shooting 3.9 of bullseye with 180 grain lead. thanks in advance.

I've never used Bullseye but from the data on Alliant's web site, it would appear that you are a little low. Charges given are maximum and they say reduce by 10% for a starting load which would make a starting load of right at 4 gr. Does the slide catch operate correctly with factory ammo? If it does, I'd say you might up your charge a bit and see if that works.

It could be either a light load not fully cycling, or light mag springs.

Does the slide lock open okay with factory ammo ? If not I'd blame the mag springs.

If it is okay with factory, you may want to safely increase your charge or reduce your recoil spring strength.
