Walnut Media: Midway v. Petsmart

I went to Petsmart last Friday and remembered to get me a bag of grounded walnut. Although the bag displays only volume instead of weight, I abused the on-premises vet and it is 12Lbs of media for $10.

And Midway has Franford's Arsenal 7Lbs for $13.29

Sorry Midway!

I would have never known. Since my wife would never allow a reptile in the house, I would never have thought to look for it.

I assume they are ground to an equivalent degree?

Been using the bedding from Petsmart for awhile ... it works. I have actually learned to like it better than much of the pretreated stuff.

Yes, they are pretty much the exact same thing. I use corncob media for 7mm caliber and larger, but the sub 7mm stuff I use walnut as it is a finer media and is easier to sift out of cases.

That's good news! I love finding bargains! I think I have enough crushed walnut hull to last a few years right now, and use the corn cob once in a while, but hey---I'll know where to look, and it's an alternative to the evil Wal Mart products.

The only difference is that it is not pre-treated but you can go ahead and buy a bottle of MidwayUSA - Frankford Arsenal Brass Case Polish 8 oz Liquid and that thing lasts forever. I still have mine over half full after three years.

I bought some pre-treated walnut media before and it ran something like 15 dollars. I had heard about the petstore stuff from somewhere. I found it was cheaper and i have been meaning to pick some up. Its not treated, so i figured i'd mix the petstore stuff in along with a bit of the pretreated stuff.
