I have deformed plenty of primers in my lee 1000 progressive press. Their primer feeder needs work...you really have to keep your eye on it and "feel" at the bottom of the down stroke that the primer is going in correctly. None have ever gone off.

Wear your safety glasses and don't worry about it.

The primer feed on the lee pro 1000 is really bad part of the problem is it's right under the powder drop so any powder granules that spill past the case can clog the primer feed, but my dillon 550 is one of the best

When I first got into loading I tried to go the inexpensive way and purchased a Lee Turret press. I still have it but shortly after I saw the error of my ways and went with a blue press and have never looked back. Well worth the extra money if you load on a frequent basis.

You have to adjust the tension screw under the shell carrier so that the case advances well before the primer is pressed in. It seems that if you don't set it up this way you get more bad primer feeds. Once you get it set up right you'll have very few problems.

Several years ago, a friend of mine had his Pro1000 blow on him while using Federal primers. He had put 100 into the primer holder, and was priming his 3rd round when it blew. He's not really sure exactly what happened, as he had loaded on it for several years. The chute and round primer holder was completely destroyed. Bits of plastic and primer material blew through his shirt and into his chest, just penetrating the skin enough to cause bleeding. It also blew into his face and caused quite a bit of bleeding. The only thing that saved his eyesight was his eyeglasses. After that, I wear safety glasses 100% of the time when I am reloading. I also went from a Pro1000 to a Dillon 650 and haven't looked back.

Dillon Super 1050 owners manual has a written warning not to use Federal Primers. They will also tell you that on the tech support phone line.

Personally, I like both Dillon and Lee and have never had a primer explosion using Federal Primers on my 3-1050's, Lee equipment or RCBS presses (yet).
