Hornady Bullet offer
New to the forum,
I am looking to buy the new Lock N Load Ap with the bullet offer of 1K rounds. I am trying to get the best deal out of what they are offering. You can only pick the caliber on the special. I will be loading 25-20, 223, 45 colt, 44-40, 44 mags, From what I can see, the best value would be the 45s that they offer, my question is, the Hornady handbook reloader shows the dia. of the 45 colt as being .452 The part number through the offer is 45160 which is a 45 caliber but it is .451 dia. Can someone help me as I want to make sure I would be getting the right bullets for my 45 Colt. Thank You in advance! BZ59 |

The problem is that the bullet they are going to give you isn't a 45 Colt bullet, it's a 45 ACP bullet. A Colt bullet should have a cannelure to roll crimp the case into. Diameter for 45 ACP bullets are usually .451 for jacketed and .452 for lead. 45 Colt bullets are usually .452 for jacketed and .452-.454 for lead. This would be the Hornady bullet you want for 45 Colt, but unfortunately it isn't one of your choices. Your best bet might be to get the 44 caliber for your 44 mag or pick the 45 caliber bullets as your free choice and then sell them so that you can buy what you really need.

Hoss is right.
The .454 bullets for the .45 Colt are usually too long and blunt to reliably feed through the Colt ACP. ACP bullets are usaully 230 grains. .45 LC bullets are usally 255 grains.

BZ59. Welcome to the forum.
You might also check the Hornady web site for the bullet offer. I just bought a LNL progressive and the rebate form in the box was different than the one on the net. One was a 2008 and the other a 2009. I called Hornady and they said to use either one regardless of purchase date. |
