As stated by TOF """Don't assume or even accept someone elses statement that X and Y powder are equal. Find a load chart for the specific powder you are using or I reccomend you not use it."""
It is too easy to mess up when trying to equate powders. Example.. Clays is not Universal Clays... Go with what a reloading handbook or powder manufacturer (geared to the powders in your part of the world) says. bosco |

Not sure if I mentioned but the ammo I refer to as Factory is actually reloaded ammo already, a local gunshops gets once fired winchester brass from police academy and reloads using Lapua 115gr FMJ projectiles.
I have shot about 2000 rounds of it through 3 of my guns with no problems, so my aim is to replicate that reloaded round by using a) the same brass b) the same projectile So all things being equal if I obtain the same powder brand and confirm the powder charge weight with the reloader then by aiming for identical OAL I should have the same ammo that I know works safe and well ? Will be dragging the calipers out again tonight.

Contacted Hodgdon about AP70N and it is Universal Clays. I hadn't noticed your location until the guy at Hodgdon freaked and wanted to know where you got it. But all load data for Universal Clays can be used.
Lee manual:115gr fmj - use same For 115gr GDHP (Hodgdon manual) start : 4.5gr max: 5gr oal: 1.125 Hodgdon manual: 115gr LRN start: 4gr max: 5gr oal: 1.100

My test round came out at 1.14 OAL, ive also loaded at 4.3-4.4gr starting. Does this all sound OK ?
My Lee Perfect powder is quite consistant did 5 lots of 10 test loads and all averaged at 4.3 - 4.4 gr My 10 test rounds I loaded at 4.3gr weighed individually.

boscobeans is correct regarding the Lee Scale. There is something you must do however to use it safely.
It relies on a level table and calibration of Zero to yield reliable results. If your table is not level and you shift position of the scale error will be introduced. You should verify Zero each reloading session to prevent error creeping in. Good luck

A word about crimping. If you want a good uniform crimp, you should trim your brass. New and once fired brass can be way out of spec. If the case mouth is uneven crimping will be erratic. Lee makes an excellent case trimmer/gauge that is so idiot proof that even I turn out great reloads.
