Only 67K CCW in Ohio ?
Ohio CCW Holders are a real minority I guess. Is it that difficult to get, or is CCW that unpopular of a concept there? (Just an Observation) ![]() |

It's not difficult to obtain and the price of the permit is only $45 and the training is $135. Some people just don't care about the safety of themselves, love ones or the people around them. I still have to put in for mine haven't been downtown in awhile. Don't read into it I have 2 permits which alow me to carry here just not an Ohio one.

reportedly, it's closer to 72k licensees.
Q1 2006 (which, iirc is not counted there, given the source cited was the 2005 report), there were apppx 5600 new licensees (and 100 revocations / 110 denials, and 37 suspensions) Q2's report shouold be out soon. (Yaaay, I'm part of Q1's statistic! :) ) FYI, training can be had for as little as $60, if you look. Both my wife and I took ours for that price.

Just curious,
my home state (Fla) has well over 300k CCW holders There are over 70k in the Tampa Bay area alone. And I always thought that was a really low number. ![]() |

I have had my CCW since 2004 here in Ohio. I also have a Penn. permit. The Plain Dealer is extreamly anti. CCW. I was very displeased with their publishing my name and the names of other CCW holders. I wrote the editor and cancelled my subscription. A lot of good that did. I'm not surprised at their continued biased reporting. No wonder that many were put off from getting their permits. Perhaps the new law will make things more CCW friendly in Ohio.

Seems the perceived hoops and hurdles put a lot of folks off - sadly too many potential CCW's are IMO not that dedicated to the cause. The more who do add to the uptake - the louder can be the voices for achieving useful change.
I estimate 810,000 CCW's in PA currently (6.75% at last mention). Of course PA shall issue is well established and also very straightforward to obtain.

Ohio has some laws that need to be "ironed out" such as the plain site law in a motor vehicle and local ordinances trumping state firearm laws. The battle in Ohio has not been won COMPLETLY yet. I beg you guys to check out the Ohioians for Concealed Carry website. Even if you aren't a resident an email to some of the legislators would really help. You never know, you may have to travel through the state someday. The Cleveland Plain Dealer is an absolute disgrace. I hate that newspaper and all that it stands for. I keep on my in-laws in NE Ohio to cancel their subscription. It is worse than my local paper the Atlanta Journal and Constitution (very anti-2nd) as far as liberal bias against the 2nd admendment. Is it just me or is NE Ohio full of a ton of sheep and ex-hippies?

Doc pretty much wrapped it up IMO. With the variety of laws to keep track of (city ordnances, the undefined "plain sight" law and some others) it can be difficult to keep track of what is legal. Recently I have been rather upset as everywhere I seem to go has been posted. But then I don't get out much. The library being posted isn't that big a deal since it is county property and I think that's normal. But the movie theatre we went to a few weeks ago (saw Pirates, it was OK) and a store this past weekend were all posted. The store I didn't even notice until after I had come back out of, it was having a going out of business sale which made me happy once I saw the sign. lol
Ohio is one of those "border" states, very evenly divided between city liberals and rural conservatives. Noticed that little article didn't have normal strong-side belt carry.

I really love how, at the top of the page, the graphic is indexed and linked as 1. Concealed weapons 2. Crime. Sheeeesh.
