Republican Debates: May 3 8pm EDT, MSNBC (Ron Paul, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani)

FYI

Quote:
The first debate among the candidates for the Republican nomination for president will take place on Thursday, May 3rd at 8:00 pm EDT.

Congressman Ron Paul will be on stage standing between Senator John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. The 90-minute debate will be broadcast live on MSNBC, and streamed live on politico.com. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library will host the event.
I haven't heard what the topics will be. I'm assuming there will be at least some time devoted to the concept of 2A rights in light of the recent Virginia Tech murders. We'll see.

EDIT:

Full schedule: click here.

And that's that. It wasn't a debate so much as rip-fire Q&A. With only 30sec responses, it was not possible for any candidate to cough up anything more than a brief sound byte. Sad format. A simple two-page bullet-point list could have been published by each person and left at that.

Debate, where? Hard to do with ten folks at once. Many of the questions were heavily aimed at the "bigger" names, with candidates such as Dr. Paul simply not asked very many questions. Too bad, as many of the points made by some of the lesser-known folks need serious expansion and true debate/engagement.

I went there for inspiration - found none.

There is only one gun law in this country, the 2nd Amendment. All else is bureaucratic nonsense that I choose to comply with or not at my discretion.

When governments make laws, they must consider the unintended consequences.

well, just cause no 2A issues came up last night doesn't mean they won't in the future. I thought the National ID Card question was a bit telling, when several candidates tried to use the question to look tough on illegal immigrants, and then backpeddled, saying it wouldn't apply to citizens... The hell it wouldn't. Maybe not at first, but that's an idea waiting to slide down the hill if I ever saw one.

I loved that part. After Paul blasted it as a bad idea they backpeddled really fast.

I can't wait till a 2A question comes up so we can see where they really stand.
