Exclamation Philadelphia Defies Preemption

Philly bypasses state, OKs gun control
Fri May 4, 11:42 AM ET

PHILADELPHIA - The City Council approved limits to gun purchases with the promise to sue state lawmakers to enforce it, saying the city could no longer wait for the Legislature as the murder rate skyrockets.

Only state lawmakers can enact firearms laws in Pennsylvania. But with 137 homicides in Philadelphia so far this year, Councilman Darrell Clarke said the city had to do something.

ugh... that's just asinine, glad I left the city. It'll never get anywhere though, the state will win.

PENNSYLVANIA (2): Philadelphia City Councilman Seeks to Usurp
Preemption and Sue Commonwealth!

Unable to pass
an anti-gun agenda thanks to Pennsylvania's preemption statute,
Philadelphia City Councilman Darrell Clarke (D-5) is now attempting to
seek final passage on eight gun-control bills that have been sitting
idle. Clarke even has claimed that the City Council is preparing a
legal suit claiming the Legislature's inaction on gun-control measures.
Please contact your City Council member and respectfully urge him or her
to oppose any of these anti-gun measures that may come before the
Council.

"Let's ignore the established laws, and make our own, and then sue them into existance because we don't like the state laws." Brilliant!! And yet, it's "justified" because they have to "do something."

This should be grounds for removal from office, and I'm not talking about being voted out of office.

And it's almost guaranteed that the corresponding lawsuit to hang the City of Philadelphia by the noogies will win, as well, to the tune of big $$. 'Course, that might take a willing test case to be the guinea pig. Still, crimes against the Constitution aren't anything to shake a stick at. Every one of those do-gooders on the city council would be shafted, if it came to that.

Walk softly, but carry a big stick. In this case, the Pennsylvania state "stick" is far bigger.

Philadelphia gov't is all crooks, starting at the top.

And if the (state) laws are so bad, why is it the rest of the state doesn't have a gun problem??? Choir dismissed.

It is sad to see the birthplace of freedom and our counrty, the northeast, turning into such a nazi control state.

Thomas Jefferson would be ashamed.

Instead of strengthening gun laws, perhaps they should legalize drugs. All the dealers would be out of business in short order if users could purchase them from legitimate establishments. And the drugs could be taxed, with the revenue going towards rehab programs for all the users of said drugs to get help in quitting.
