From the Brady's **UPDATE**
Got this in a email from the BRADY bunch this is RETARDED.
What can we do about gun violence? There are many things we can do to prevent gun violence. Here are three policy proposals: 1. We must comprehensively and effectively apply the Brady background check system, so no one who we want to prohibit from buying guns can legally buy one. Effective background checks would have stopped the Virginia Tech killer from buying these guns. 2. We must reduce access to weaponry that is not for sport and not for self-defense. Had Congress and the President not allowed the assault weapon ban to expire, the killer may not have been able to obtain the high capacity magazines he used in his assault. 3. We must give our police and federal law enforcement the tools and resources they need to fight gun crimes, including illegal gun trafficking and corrupt gun dealers. New technologies, such as microstamping and other ballistic identification systems, might have allowed authorities to identify the Virginia Tech shooter earlier, before his second, most deadly, rampage. 1) Your system was the one that failed. (The brady NICS check) If it had been other peoples systems I.E. CCW on campus it may not have failed, at least others could have fought back. 2) BS. If the guy had 10 round magazines he just would have reloaded that much more. Thats is not the problem or he would have pulled his P22 while he reloaded his 19 who cares hindsight is 20/20 bad things ARE GOING to happen. Now if a CCW holder had been watching for him to reload at anypoint in the fight that may have ended it right there. It dosn't matter at all how many shots he had. Only, that he had the will to carry out a EVIL plan. He may have used 4 guns instead of 2. The point is there was nobody there to stop him becaus Idiots like you prevented them from doing so. 3) "New technologies, such as microstamping and other ballistic identification systems, might have allowed authorities to identify the Virginia Tech shooter earlier, before his second, most deadly, rampage. " Are you talking about microstamping the bullets and ballistic testing. Yeah that would have prevented this from happening. That stuff only comes in AFTER the shooting not before. Wake up allow CCW on campus and fix the problem.

1. We must comprehensively and effectively apply the Brady background check system, so no one who we want to prohibit from buying guns can legally buy one.
Effective background checks would have stopped the Virginia Tech killer from buying these guns. You want to prohibit ALL OF US from having guns -- that has always been obvious. So why not just ban guns for EVERYBODY? Oh, that's right, you could never make that happen in a country where so many of us care about liberty. 2. We must reduce access to weaponry that is not for sport and not for self-defense. Had Congress and the President not allowed the assault weapon ban to expire, the killer may not have been able to obtain the high capacity magazines he used in his assault. Since when does the Brady Center for Idiotic Bans allow that SELF DEFENSE is a legitimate reason to own a gun?! These *#&%^ liars are SO TWO-FACED! "Self Defense" is a reason that is explicitly NOT treated as a legitimate reason to get a gun license in various anti-gun cities and states. Now Brady says that a gun is okay if it's for self defense? Since when?! And as for the magazines; LIARS! He used NORMAL capacity magazines, unless they were sticking out from the bottom of the guns! Just because you disingenuously reclassify normal capacity as "high" capacity does not make it truthful. And we all know -- despite your repeated lie -- that the so-called assault weapons ban did not remove existing inventory of so-called "high capacity" magazines. (Frankly, I'm amazed that they're not calling them "clips"!) 3. Um, are you actually suggesting that microstamping the bullets that killed the first two victims in the dorms would have been used to identify the gun they came from, then the owner, before the rest of the rampage was committed?! This is ludicrous! The bodies were not even cold yet! But somehow the bullets would have been quickly plucked out of them and identified in a lab (where?) and suddenly that would have resulted in the police's ability to stop the killer cold in his tracks wherever he was?? What if the gun had been stolen and was in a thief's hands, not in the purchaser's? These people are absolute morons. It's gratifying to see that they are less and less a factor in any meaningful debate. Every time they open their mouths publicly, they make themselves less and less relevant. |

One more rhetorical question.... What authority would the president have used to reauthorize the extention of the AWB? I don't know of any he would have used to do this without reauthorization of the bill.

I suppose he could have tried an executive order while the law was still in force, but a court challenge would have struck it down most likely. Congress could also have passed law to invalidate the EO, basically making the EO illegal.
