This is depressing ......

Just look at this bunch of wonderful stuff from NRA's news output today .. Remember folks - 2A is under attack - from many quarters.

Sacramento, California City Council Proposes Anti-Gun Ordinances!

Please Contact the Sacramento City Council Today! Two ordinances taking aim at our Second Amendment rights are heading to the Sacramento City Council for its consideration and could be voted on any day. The first would require that the purchaser of ammunition be subject to unnecessary forms, fingerprinting, and a background check for each and every retail purchase. A second ordinance would dictate that a lost or stolen firearm must be reported to law enforcement within 48-hours of the discovery. The gun-owner must report the make, model, and serial number of the firearm, as well as how the firearm was lost. Failure to do so within the 48-hour timeframe would be grounds for prosecution.

Gun-Ban Proposal to be Considered in Louisiana!

On Wednesday, May 30 at 9:30 AM in HCR-6, the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee will consider HB 869, a bill that would establish far-reaching restrictions on semi-automatic firearms (dubbing them "assault weapons") and ammunition magazines. It would target every firearm modified to conform with the now-extinct Clinton Gun-Ban plus many other semi-automatic firearms that have no lineage to those rifles or any military-style orientation whatsoever.

California Microstamping Bill Heading to Assembly Floor!

The California Assembly is currently considering legislation, Assembly Bill 1471, which would require that after a certain date, the make, model, and serial number be microstamped onto the interior surface or internal working parts of all handguns in such a manner that those identifiers are imprinted onto the cartridge case upon firing. Under AB1471, the manufacture, sale, and transfer of handguns that do not include their identifying information would be a crime.

Kansas Congressman Rebukes Mayor on Guns
New York Sun
As part of his national campaign against guns, Mr. Bloomberg has targeted Congressman Todd Tiahrt aggressively, even running television ads in his Kansas district that tell voters that a law their congressman sponsored is helping criminals, not the police. The veteran Republican lawmaker has stayed mostly quiet in the face of the onslaught, but now he is fighting back.

Why are they worried about me reporting a serial # of a stolen gun???? The government has the make, model, and serial # from when I bought it. If they can't keep their records straight, then all that crap at time of purchase is just choking the chicken.

Does the 48 hour rule apply to government agencies that have 'lost' guns??? If the 'professionals' are not sharp enough to comply, how in the world do they expect us mere mortals to do it??

Furthermore, see below:

There is only one gun law in this country, the 2nd Amendment. All else is bureaucratic nonsense that I choose to comply with or not at my discretion.

When governments make laws, they must consider the unintended consequences.

You might as well ask why they try to force proposals for so-called "smart guns" on us, when the police themselves aren't willing to bet their lives on them. And they have backup, and radios, and bullet-resistant vests, and K-9s, and riot shields ... WE, on the other hand, respond to crimes SOLO, and they want us to have to use technology that can fail like any cellular phone or iPod!

Um, about that "microstamping" thing. How on earth would a firearm be able to "microstamp" some serial number onto each fired casing? Isn't that kind of like a very sensitive, precision operation? And we're going to expect a $500 firearm to be able to accomplish it over and over? How long would such a "stamper" have for a service life? Imagine a typewriter key that had to stamp its letter onto metal thousands of times, at high energy impact. How long would it last before needing replacement?!

I reckoned that ''microstamping'' was probably a system based on high speed inkjet printing, like done on food packaging as it goes thru on a fast conveyor.

The writing can be minute and persistent enough that it is hard to remove, without leaving evidence of removal. I did not think there would a literal physical stamping. OTOH, on brass (soft) ... and with say a boron nitride die and very light stamping depth - still possible.

Whole idea of course is ludicrous beyond belief.

And, of course, no criminal would ever dream of disabling or altering the microstamping hardware.

I think these anti Bill Of Rights politicians know that these "measures" will do nothing to deter the criminal use of firearms. They know it make the manufacture and LEGAL sales of firearms to the minions more difficult resulting in fewer LEAGALY owned firearms in their state. They wish to use the power of government to mandate we all become sheep. I don't believe for a second that the true intent of these anti civil rights gun laws is to prevent crime. I think they could care less if these "smart gun" technologys really work or not. If it causes a burdon on gun owners and manufacturers, thats good enough for them.
