Statistics can mean anything, depending on your point of view. Check out Nebraska City Police Chief William Muldoon's logic below. He clearly states that because the BS concerns that CCW has not escalated into the proverbial "Wild West" show, there is no reason to allow CCW for a non-existent problem...what a Nimrod! I think if Sen. Combs has the ammunition to pass this bill, she should attack now...Nebraskans are the losers for her inactions.
Combs should keep her gun bill holstered Sen. Jeanne Combs has agreed to hold her concealed-weapons bill for the rest of this legislative session in return for a promise to consider it early next year. She did so to avoid a filibuster by Sen. Ernie Chambers, which would have taken up hours of precious time as the session comes to a close with far more pressing matters still on the agenda. Combs claims she not only has enough votes to pass the bill, but has 36 senators lined up to vote to end any possible filibuster. A year's delay might be enough time to change some minds on a proposal that is unnecessary and dangerous. Under the bill, Nebraskans 21 or older with no felonies, crimes of violence or violations related to controlled substances or firearms in the previous five years could get permits to carry concealed guns after completing a training course administered by the State Patrol. That sounds reasonable enough. Supporters note that most other states allow this. But law enforcement opposes this legislation for a reason. "So many people see this as the right to defend themselves and don't see the dangers of having more guns in people's houses," Nebraska City Police Chief William Muldoon told the Journal Star last week. Increasing the number of weapons actively being handled, if only to be carried around, increases the chance for accidents. That is simple logic. That those weapons will be in places where firearms are not now seen creates more safety concerns. The odds of having to pull a gun to defend yourself are slim. If pistol-packing residents were constantly using their guns to protect themselves, we'd certainly be hearing more about it from places where a new "Wild West" has broken out. Those in favor of concealed weapons argue that this shows concealed weapons deter crime and that we have little to worry about in allowing concealed weapons here. It's hard to imagine that someone bent on committing a street crime would be deterred by the thought that the possible victim is carrying a gun. There's little use for concealed weapons, beyond the comforting feeling it might give to those who decide to arm themselves. Combs' bill would create more problems than it solves. That's never a good result for any kind of legislation, but particularly not when it comes to laws about firearms.

Maybe he should check the crime rate statistics of those states that pass a concealed carry law before opening his mouth to the world....

With his line of thinking I'm surprised they haven't stopped issuing driver's licenses....after all, there are too many "accidents" with vehicles....simply ban them and the problem goes away!
