State Attorney Norm Wolfinger says an assault weapons ban isn't a silver bullet, but state agencies crippled by budget cuts need all the help they can gather.

We agree, and it's why we're deeply troubled by Sheriff Jack Parker's opposition to the renewed ban, which he claims wouldn't be effective and could erode citizens' right to bear arms under the Second Amendment.

But 63 police officers nationwide have been fatally shot this year, up more than 37 percent from the same period last year, according to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C.
Of those 63, how many were shot with their own weapon?
I'm sure it's more than zero and less than 63.
So, since at least some cops (I've read that it's a lot of them) are killed with their own guns, why aren't they arguing to take guns away from cops for their own safety? Could it be that they recognize that while some mishaps and tragedies occur, having a gun is a better bet for safety than not having a gun?

I love how any time an elected official sides with the NRA, and possibly gets NRA contributions, that elected official is "bought and paid for / in the pocket of the NRA."

There's a chicken-or-egg question here.
I guess it could never simply be that the NRA supports this person because he ALREADY was in ideological agreement with the NRA's positions... No, it's always that his votes are tainted by NRA money. I guess no one ever is just a true-blue pro-gun official until he gets money from the NRA: and then he's their slave.

But then they wouldn't say that Chuck Schumer has been intimidated or bribed by HCI, VPC, et al into voting anti-gun. No, he's voting his conscience!

What a load of garbage. And they expect people actually can't see thier disingenuousness?
