Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, said the Supreme Court should "reverse a clearly erroneous decision and make it clear that the Constitution does not prevent communities from having the gun laws they believe are needed to protect public safety."
Which part of the public does Paul Helmke want to protect? The law abiding public on the streets that are prohited from defending themselves or the law abiding public that are allowed to protect themselves in their homes with their rifles and shotguns that have to be either locked up or disassembled? Or maybe he believes it's the criminal element walking the streets and invading peoples houses because they know the chances of resistance is practically nil. "Handguns are the criminals' choice of weapons. Eighty-seven percent of all crime guns are handguns," said Linda Singer, D.C. attorney general. So their ban is keeping handguns out of the hands of law abiding citizens but evidently not out of the hands of criminals. "We are united and committed to fighting for the safety and welfare of the district's people," Mayor Adrian Fenty. Sad thing is their fight is protecting the criminals more than it is the law abiding citizens. The city is looking at laws restricting guns if the gun ban loses. Already making plan to further restrict the law abiding citizen if they lose in court. I guess you have ot expect that type of insanity in a city that kept electing Marion Berry as Mayor. Control the people, control the people, control the peasants...

It really is funny; every major online news outlet has run a poll in the last two days asking whether the 2nd Amendment protects an individual or collective right, and every one has ended up overwhelmingly in favor of gun rights...
Is this an indication of where the court will probably end up? Well, you gotta figure that they're going to sit down to session knowing what the public polls have been saying... to say nothing of all the amicus briefs that will more than adequately inform the justices what history surrounds the individual nature of the right to keep and bear arms. Is there really even one iota of doubt that right is 100% on our side on this? The only possible way to get an unfavorable ruling is for truth to be utterly ignored. I just don't see that happening. |
