Honestly? If the gun is not worth several thousand dollars, jump through whatever hoops you can, then just forget about it. Can you hire an attorney for less than the replacement cost of the gun?

Salt of the earth this, all cops are bad that, your blaster got sucked into the meat grinder that is the criminal justice system and will come out somewhere, probably not in your hands unfortunately.

Can't offer help on getting your gun back. If I were in that situation, I would do everything to ensure you and your children are totally away from her. Totally!! Disentangle you and yours from her. Do not engage in any communication w/ her. Change your number. Walk away if she tries to confront you. Call the police if she comes on your property so they can escort her off. Always keep emotions in check.

If she is in a mental state to threaten doing something harmful to herself , she can/will do other things, like: file a bogus Protection From Abuse order against you (oops, there goes the CCW and guns while the PFA is active(at least in my state)), falsely accuse you of some crime againt her (assault and rape first come to mind) or others (child molestation). She could have done something harmful to your children (I am thankful that she did not harm your children).

Never underestimate the will / ability of a vindictive person. Especially one who is having mental health issues.

It might be a good idea to talk to a lawyer about the possibilities of problems for you (which could lead to loss of your freedom, loss of your children (at least for a time), loss of your right to carry, and lastly loss of your one firearm. I do believe the firearm loss is the one that should be dealt with after everything else has been straightened out.
