rodc, I wish I could convince myself of that.

As far as the if you wake up and find guns are banned then you slept to long, comment...
Well, I wake up every day knowing that if they ban guns that same day, there isn't a thing I can do about it, aside from some hideouts or whatever. And the first time I had to use a hideout I would probably be thrown in jail for not relinquishing my banned weapons.

As far as the no political traction...well, for outright bans, no.

But how about the following attempts or successes:

Banning hunting ammo because it can penetrate bullet proof vests
Ammo serialization
Smart guns
Safety locks
High capacity magazines
Outright bans in some cities
Full-auto
Silencers
'saturday night specials'
Background checks
Barrel length
types of ammo
classes of people who the 2nd doesn't apply to
gun-free zones
suing gun manufacturers

I personally think those do establish some sort of traction for the anti's.

The DC vs Heller case really, really scares me. I know what the ruling should be. You do to. It is the only ruling that would be just and make sense, but just because it would be just, doesn't mean that's what it will be.

I think it is already too late, and I think the more people that realize it, the better off we will be. I see too many people rationalizing more gun legislation as 'common sense' or 'for the good of the people', and I think it would help a lot if people realized how much closer we get to a total ban with each concession we make. Somebody has a quote on this board about 'What is a interpretation of the constitution except half way between what it says and what you want it to say' or something to that effect. We've gotten so far away from what the 2nd admendment actually means that it has no meaning anymore except as a rallying point or catch phrase for forums like this.

Edited to add: I also agree with OPFOR on this one, shooting at the LEO and/or the NG that come to take the guns would accomplish absolutely nothing positive. As far as there being another day...who knows?

We can talk about Red Dawn if you want, and then I might have some different answers, but in another Katrina situation I know where I stand.
I agree with you. I'll just hid one and some ammo.. and ask for a receipt

A long time ago I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution against ALL enemies foriegn and domestic. Even though I am no longer on active duty I still feel bound by that oath. I feel that during Katrina the police crossed to the side of the enemy. You may infer from that what you wish.

I would be in no hurry to start a firefight with what might as well be seal team 6. As stated earlier some situational awareness would have gone a long way. My power was out for a week during Katrina. I was prepared with water, food, propane yada, yada. It still wasn't too bad up here even though it was still a cat. 1 when it hit us. Power lines and trees were down on a massive scale and gas was not to be had for over a week. (I filled up ahead of time...going back to that situational awareness thing) As a proud resident of an extremely red state, I like to think nothing like that would ever happen here, and so far it hasn't. I'm not aware on any gun grabs in Waveland or anywhere else on the MS gulf coast, which were far and away more devestated than NO. I mean we're talking total obliteration...I digress...NO taught me that anything is possible with these govt morons. If I see something like that again coming on the radar headed for MS, I'll be adding one more thing to my "to do before the storm hits list" Pick up a worn out Hi Point at a pawn shop for peanuts, so that when and if that sad day should arise I'll have something to hand them, bury a glock and move the good stuff temporarily to a storage unit. I pay every month for the damned thing anyway. Oh yea, and if you have to leave like those on the coast, then do it early. It's not like you don't have warning. I think we just need to be a little smarter than the govt. It shouldn't be too hard.

This is exactly why I have a couple of guns that I purposely bought from walkers at a gunshow, no paper trail.

All I will say is: Every time I read this speech I wonder what modern Americans would have done on the field at Concord? Would they stand there and resist, or just lay down their arms to the British and say "It's not worth it"?

Many will hear the call to arms, few will respond.
