I talked with gentleman from the Netherlands at a hotel bar the other night. He was wondering what all the fuss was about over $4.00 a gallon gas. Europe has been paying around $8-$10 for years, heck when I was in Germany in 74 it was around $3.25 a liter. So all this talk of the world coming to an end is fiction, bottom line is we'll adjust, make-do, and continue.
Gun confisication? In the event of a Katrina like event the police will be knocking on an unoccupied house, I'd pack-up the family and leave (with) weapons as soon as the alert went out and before the road blocks and check points go up.
In the event of the SHTF event and the brown-shirts knock at my door, they'll find my 22 pistol and rifle, plus a 410 shotgun which should keep them happy.
In the event there is a EOLAWKI situation and they take my guns after ransacking my home and beating me up, I'm sure that the resistance-group I join will have access to more.

I've been thinking about this more and more often, especially with the political climate we are in.

I'll go down shooting. I'm not giving up anything. Local, nationwide, temporary, whatever. You can have my guns when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers.

I'm sick of this nanny state and our 'representatives' that have stopped representing ME.

So, you have changed your mind about handing them over?
The ones saying I will call my lawyer, what if he don't answer?
When will you get them back? Are you sure you will?
You may have not needed them till now, so why give them up?

I love this forum and the people on it. Not just because I like guns, but because there are many here who still love freedom and understand the responsibility it requires to achieve it (being armed).

We have these discussions at the shop I work at using nice rounded off numbers kind of give an idea of what would happen. I honsestly think that a national gun confiscation would be tough. Since, a lot of LE and military are in the same catagory as the people.

However, heres the real question. WHO wants to be the MARTYR?

No one. And so our natural rights continue to be slowly chipped away at. Our freedom has been stolen one "law" at a time. The cost of freedom is always blood. Indeed, there is no other currency with which freedom can be bought.

In the small scale, temporary, reality sense - no one is dieing by my hand, and I'm going home at the end of the day (to call my lawyer and get my shovel).
I have observed over the last few years the vast and awsome might of the U.S. military NOT put down an inserection in a small part of a country that is roughly the size of California. This makes me believe a modern country could fight despotism.

I then think of the frog that simmers to death in a pot of water vs. the frog that is thrown into boiling water and jumps out.-Jay

I find the term MARTYR to be disgusting and vile given it's context and use today, I'd rather go down fighting as a Patriot or at least as a Freedom Fighter. Besides how many of our soldiers would fire on their own, I know a lot of them would out of duty to the commander and chief, but if something like this became protracted (which it would), we would find ourselves in another civil war. Maybe even another American Revolution. In the long run there would be lots of desertion.

If I were still a soldier or an LEO, I'd have a very tough time following orders that I felt strongly were wrong, especially if it meant shooting my fellow countrymen, but I'm not talking just a local uprising, but something on a National type rebellion. Again this is just speculation on my part. Things would have to get exponentially worse than they are now for something like this to come to pass.

This may be to Simple for some here,. I am not a well Educated Man,.All I Know
is this In times of crisis, A Man's gotta do what a Man's gotta do, As long as I can look myself in the mirror and I know I did what I thought was right then that's the best any one can hope for. I am A CITIZEN, not a Subject, and If I die trying to be a Citizen, Then I know I will not be alone.

Another Hurricane

This reminds of when I was stationed in FT Benning and we were called to help after Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Me and my warrant officer were driving around, just checking out the destruction and happened upon a pretty lady in a bikini in distress. Well..., we thought she was in distress, she was laying out in the front yard:) Any ways , there were punks driving thru almost all the neighborhoods and ransacking the damaged houses, all except one neighborhood that was armed and had posted lookouts at the major cross streets. They had managed to "discourage" the punks from entering by a show of force and their castles were protected. Not only theirs but their neighbors as well. The police did not have to worry about patrolling that section of town because it was taken care of. Now that I am stationed out in SOCAL I am thinking about talking to my neighbors about a plan of action like theirs for this hood. It doesn;t need to be extravagant, just know whose armed and willing to set up in the hood if ever any thing happens. Part of being prepared and having some food set aside with my ammo in case of an emergency.
