VA Gov. Kaine what a HYPOCRITE: SB776

From VCDL Alerts.

Governor Kaine has signed SB 776, a bill that permits Commonwealth
Attorneys and their deputies, with NO requirement for any firearms
training, to carry a concealed handgun into a restaurant that serves
alcohol AND DRINK while they're at it!!!

Unbelievably, just last week Kaine vetoed SB 476, which would have
allowed concealed handgun permit holders, all of whom have firearms
training, to carry a concealed handgun in such a restaurant as long as
the permit holder did NOT drink. And under SB 476 CHP holders would
have had to notify the restaurant that they were carrying concealed if
the management wanted them to do so!

But rather than having the decency to just let SB 476 become law
without his signature, Kaine vetoed it.

In doing so, Kaine showed he doesn't have the political wisdom of his
predecessor, Mark Warner. Between Kaine and Dick "Banjo" Saslaw, the
Virginia Democratic Party now has a HUGE black eye with gun owners in
an important election year.

The Governor clearly believes in a double standard: one for anyone
who works for the government, no matter how unqualified, and one for
"lowly" citizens, like you and I.

The Governor's mantra about "guns and alcohol not mixing" is just so
much BS and the Governor isn't even trying to hide that fact. Kaine's
signature on SB 776 says it all.

Vetoing SB 476 and signing SB 776 shows that Kaine believes that
government employees can mix guns and alcohol without a problem.

But this is also about sour grapes.

The Governor put a lot of his eggs, and his credibility, in one basket
this year - getting the private-gun-sale-registration-scheme
(sometimes erroneously referred to as the "gun show loophole") bill
passed. The Governor's bill, which was carried by Senator Marsh, and
the Governor's ego both got crushed by a bipartisan vote in the
Democratic-controlled Senate.

Kaine could have avoided that embarrassment if he had simply paid
attention to what happened to Jeannemarie Devolites-Davis when she,
too, put her political eggs in the gun-control basket.

The Governor keeps forgetting that most of his constituency is no
longer Richmond's inner city, as it was when he was Richmond's Mayor.
The rest of Virginia, including Northern Virginia, isn't buying into
using gun control as a political hobbyhorse on the back of the
Virginia Tech tragedy.

Governor Kaine rode that hobbyhorse right into a brick wall, got up
off the ground, and ran for his veto pen out of spite.

Gov. of VA Letter

here is a coppy of a letter that I just sent to the govenor of va letting him know how I felt on him possing the law SB-776 that wold allow the commenwelth attorney to conceal carry in resturants that serve alcohol . He doesnt need a concealed permit or training. I guess its ok for him but not ccw holders. So guys in va or wherever writh him and let Kaine know how feel { I just want to let you know I am very disappointed in your passing of bill #SB-776 allowing the comm. attorney & his deputies to conceal carry in restaurants and bars that serve alcohol and be able to drink.You vetoed a similar bill that would allow normal citizens to conceal carry in restaurants . Do you actually think that if a deranged person that wants to commit harm will obey your gun laws. I think not , they don't now or never will . The politicians in this country keep forgetting who they work for , you pass laws that we dont want , but the ones that will benefit you or other gov. agents. We pay you salary , so you and the rest of you work for us.I for one will not vote for you in any other office that you will run for .I hope in the remaining of your term you will remember who is your employer and pass laws that the people actually want and not what you think we need. You are not god. Only he knows what we need. listen to the people and give them what they want . Let them decide for themselves. the gov. needs to be put back in the hands of the people and , after all the gov. works for us, we don't work for you..}

Kaine is a hypocrite. I wrote him a letter describing the BS about the "Gun Show Loop Hole" hysteria and he sent me a letter stating something to the effect if I don’t support him, then I support criminals obtaining firearms. I wrote back and called his office asking him to clarify his comments to me and explain how criminals (in any significant numbers) obtained firearms from shows or law abiding citizens. He has yet to respond back. I will remember his actions when election time rolls around again. When he gets on that D.C. radio talk show again, I’ll try to call in.

While I do not live in the Commonwealth any longer, I did go to high school and college (Rah Virginia Mil!) there. Somehow it doesn't surprise me that the Governor would be a hypecrite on this subject or any other.

Maybe the political drumming he is getting will sink in at some point. If I can offer a word of encouragement, just keep up the pressure and don't quit! I think the liberals expect to win by outlasting any opposition. Most people will just give up and not fight anymore when they are told an issue has been 'settled'. That does not have to be the case. It may take a while, but GOOD always triumphs over EVIL. INMO, those that wish to take away any right at any time is EVIL.

You know he can't run again, right? BTW, he's on WRVA on the last thursday of the month on "Ask the Governor", I wonder what that'll be like this month...

I know he can't run (at least in the next election), just keeping fresh in my mind the promises made and not kept. "Ask the Governor" was the radio program I was trying to remember, thanks. I tried to get through this past January however; was informed he was not taking anymore questions. I will try again.

Not that it will make a difference, but this is the e-mail I sent to Governor Kaine.

I view your signing of this bill as a slap in the face to ALL law abiding citizens of Virginia. If a Commonwealth Attorney wishes a CWP they should be required to submit an application, undergo training and a background check like everyone else. Their carry should face the same restrictions as everyone else, except possibly in court buildings. Resturants that serve alcoholic beverages should be off limits for conceal carry. I took a higher oath than they did when they were sworn in. Where they swore an oath to inforce the laws and the constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia, I took an oath to uphold the laws and constitution of The United States of America. I did not ask for or expect any special treatment because of it. Just EQUAL treatment.
