2007 Term Opinions of the Court

If they issue opinions on these conference days for the rest of the term, we could find out on:
  • 12 June - Thursday - Conference Day
  • 16 June - Monday - Non-argument Session
  • 19 June - Thursday - Conference Day
  • 23 June - Monday - Non-argument Session

I cannot believe that they will be making a real and very serious permanent decision at all as based on that one day of discussion which was to my ear largely clownish being rife with inaccuracies and little ability by either party to submit to the justices a direct position of opinion toward arguing against the others position.

Janq, the great part of that day was our side didn't really HAVE to make an argument. The judges humiliated the anti's on their own. Our side would have had to been on drugs to interrupt the Supreme Court Justices while they were dressing down the attorney for D.C.

I don't feel like they will make a landmark decision. I believe they will interpret the 2nd amendment as an individual right subject to reasonable restriction for the safety of the public.

In essence, they will rule the D.C. ban unconstitutional and leave us with a lot of work left to do.

Just my .02.

The ruling that just came out says Gitmo terror suspects can challenge detention in civilian courts.

Since the opinion wasn't issued today, that means it will be out next THURSDAY.

The court only has 3 months after hearing arguments to issue a decision. Argument was on March 18, 2008. 3 months from that means that the latest the decision can be issued is June 19, 2008 which is next Thursday.

We can wait a week.

+1 on kerbouchards' post. In reality, that is really the only decision we really need to go a long way towards winning the war on guns.

Janq, the truth is, the oral arguments probably didn't make much of an impact. In fact, Justice THomas has made his disdain for the oral arguments known and to a large degree I think most of the other Justices are the same, in that, they prefer to base their opinions on the briefs combined with their own legal research and philosophy rather than what a couple of fellow attorneys matter to spew out in a few minutes.
