While these guys are obviously true antis posing as hunters & shooters, make no mistake about it, the divisiveness among real hunters and gun owners is a very real problem. I find this attitude most prevalent among shotgunners who only own shotguns for trap, skeet, clays and even hunting. A disturbing number of them have no problem with the gun-grabbers coming after our handguns or "black rifles" as they see no practical use for them and the grabbers aren't after their shotguns. In some ways, they're more difficult to discuss gun control with than a true anti as they don't seem to have a true opinion, they're just apathetic. I used to have this argument constantly with my ex-brother-in-law. He refused to join the NRA and just couldn't understand the need for an AR-15 or a handgun. In was only after he decided to start deer hunting and purchased a Remington 742 semi-auto that I was finally able to convince him that with just a change to the stock, his now beloved deer rifle was the dangerous "black rifle" that the antis were after. He finally joined NRA.

This is one area where all of us who truly understand the goal of the antis - to do away with ALL guns - need to work on gun owners with this "they're not after my gun" attitude. If all firearm owners, not just firearm enthusiasts, would join the NRA, we would wield a political force that could not be ignored.

Do I agree with these people?? Certainly not...but I do see the type of people they are targeting and where they're coming from. These guys are traditional hunters...generations old. I was one of them. When they're walking through the woods and see a guy sitting up on a deer stand with an AR-15, it just plain looks stupid. You're spoiling the scenery. You look like some kind of trigger happy Rambo wannabe. They don't like it. I don't like it.

On the other hand...I have absolutely no objection to owning an assault rifle for your own amusement or even HD, if you're so inclined. (I'd love to have a Sig 556.) But when you go trapesing off into the woods during hunting season with your AK over your shoulder you're ruining the traditional feeling for them. That's why they hate black rifles, and that's why these sleazy Brady types target them for help.

As a teen, I went deer hunting in Vermont with an HK 91. Yes, I got some strange looks from the "old timers..."

Great...Be sure to clean it with your Ka-bar 1271 Black fighter while you're at it.

I took my son deer hunting when he was 7 yrs. old. He was kinda small for his age, so I had trouble finding a gun he could comfortably and safely hold. With the colapsable stock on my M4, he could hold it very well. I made sure he could hit POA perfect. In practice he shot 10 rds. in a half inch group at 50 yards on a deer target, all in the center of the vitals. I had no problem with him hunting with it. Now he is 9, and he uses a compact ruger .308. If someone wants to hunt with an evil black rifle, I have no problem at all with that.

Why should we be worried about "bringing these people back on our side"?

The more gun owners working together the better, and less ammunition given to the Brady bunch has to be a good thing. These arn't people who are beyond redemption...only people with a different love of guns than our own.
