No, it's not just Doritos and Fritos, it is also the Quaker Oats company, the makers of Captain Crunch!

While I understand the frustration of doing business with someone whose politics are offensive, the fact is that boycotts seldom change politics nor hurt the business sufficiently to cause a change of policy.

Boycotts hurt the consumer, who is depriving himself of a product that he would ordinarily enjoy. Or in the case of Pepsico, a wide ranging array of products. Frankly, I don't have the time to research the ultimate owner of every product I buy in order to determine their politics.

I just saw the irony in Captain Crunch posting in this thread.

Buy American, all other things equal.

Man, that's an understatement!

Oops!

Actually, I've never believed in boycotts, either. If I did, I probably wouldn't be able to buy any consumer product, because virtually all companies do or say something I disagree with. So I don't let it concern me.

And boycott Cap'n Crunch?

Heaven forbid!

Why not petition them to even things up by giving a BR!CK award to the founders of Students for Concealed Carry, who were instrumental in getting legislation going in several states to allow students to be able to defend themself in case of another VA Tech?

Good idea. I'm not holding my breath on it though.

I understand Frito-Lay's position on this one. They are just honoring the students that earned the award, they don't have to support the political position of the person. It's almost the same as when a TV station, newspaper or magazine put on someone that they don't agree with, but deserves to be heard or receive recognition.

I'm looking at it this way. I may not agree with the kid's position on guns, but at least the kid is doing something. He's getting involved in the process and trying to make a difference by working for what he believes in. Too many people today just sit back and let somebody else make their decisions for them. Kudos to the kid for at least staying out of trouble and doing something to further his beliefs. We all have the ability to do the same thing he's doing, support our own beliefs and make as much of an impact.

Besides, he's still young and he's probably never been exposed to legal use of firearms, just the violent act he witnessed. Maybe he'll eventually see the light with some proper education. Wouldn't that be a coup? Stealing one of the Brady Bunch's poster boys?

Also, my wife is a huge fan of Pepsi and love's Muncho's, my kids love Dorito's and Cheeto's and Cap'n Crunch, etc.. A boycott of them would never work in this house. Unless one of you wants to let me sleep on your couch until it's over.

My wife has worked for Frito Lay for 12 years and they have been very good to us. She doesn't put much stock into this bag brouhaha. She is also a CHL holder and a damn fine shot with her XD9.....

Wrote to Theo.....

Just sent that poor misguided youth a letter....here 'tis.

Dear Theo.....
How about 'si vis pacem, para bellum'? I like that Latin phrase. I like yours too, but it seems a little...misdirected to me.
You see, I am also the people. I am an American from Greek parents. I disagree with anti-gun legislation that takes away a good citizens right to defend themselves.
By disarming 'good' people, you are just enabling the 'bad' people. I'm sorry about the violence you witnessed and I hope that one day you can come to reasonable terms with it, but, laws against guns, bullets, etc....are not listened to by those, forgive the pun, that you're aiming at.
Criminals by definition, don't listen to laws. The only people anti legislation hurts are those that are law abiding.
Ask a criminal in jail if they're scared of the police or laws aimed at them. Now, ask them if they're scared of a potential victim that they thought was unarmed.....
Good luck....Molon Labe!

I like the one reply someone posted on that article

I wonder if they’d feature some activist who advocates a ban on junk food.
