How do the current candidates stand on the 2nd Amendment?

Hopefully this hasn't been posted before and if it has, sorry, it can't hurt to see it again right?

Here are the views of Obama, Clinton, and McCain on various "Gun Control" issues:

Obama:
Barack Obama on Gun Control

Clinton:
Hillary Clinton on Gun Control

McCain:
John McCain on Gun Control

Great post on the "big picture" of where the candidates stand

Pretty clear choice for me...although it's not a 'happy' one (not much to pick from on other issues though)...

It'd be easier if we could make choose not just one candidate, but a different one to be president of each category. like:

"president on 2a related stuff"
"president of the economy"
"president of making sure that I (individually) get a good retirement healthcare program and pension"
etc.

Please do remember that these are "politicians" who tend to say what they think most voters want to hear. What they actually do once elected is often quite different then what they said. And this is true for all politicians, regardless of party. So, IMO, if they express even moderate gun control positions, you can almost bet the farm they are doing so to try to placate Second Amendment advocates like us. Once elected, we will face a very different scenario.

The real gun rights contest will be in Congress.

And it looks pretty bleak.

The candidate? (our best choice out of the line-up of incompetents)?--my opinion-----at best, wishy-washy. Just wait until they are under pressure and in office, then polls or the American public won't amount to a hill of beans.

Don't know a whole lot about Bob Barr, but as a Libertarian, he surley will have many of our wishes in common. So he will be another possibility. I saw an interview with him (Glen Beck maybe?) where it was estimated that he would get 3% of the vote. Ugh

The thing with him is though, the fact he is the 3rd party candidate puts him at a extreme disadvantage, regardless of his platform. This country is frozen in a 2-party system, and I think its not doing us any good. Ron Paul got some amazing financial support during the Rep. primary, but no one seemed to really take him serious or give any attention. I think the same will be true for Barr. He's making news with his announcement to run right now, but by the time the election rolls around, is anyone going to know who he is?? Some different options would be refreshing for this election.

Wait, I'm confused, what is McCain's position on "Assault Weapons"?

Quote:
Opposes restrictions on assault weapons and ammunition types
Quote:
Supports ban on certain assault weapons
Quote:
Voted against Brady Bill & assault weapon ban

And what about banning/restricting firearms in general?

Quote:
Ban cheap guns
Quote:
Repeal existing gun restrictions

And what about gun show background checks?

Quote:
for gun show checks
Quote:
Voted NO on background checks at gun shows

Yep, sounds like the kind of conservative we need in the White House.

I agree with pretty much all of you. It's going to be down to the lesser of 2 or 3 evils.
