DC Mayor and Semi

Adrian M. Fenty, the mayor of Washington, said that officials here are considering an amnesty period during which people who own handguns can register them without penalty.

Mr. Fenty emphasized that it remains illegal to carry handguns outside the home and that only registered guns may be kept at home. Automatic and semi-automatic weapons will generally remain illegal, Mr. Fenty said.

Aren't all (or most) handguns semi-automatic by nature?

He should read what the Supremes said, or rather didn't say. They said 'handguns', not revolvers only. Looks like he is getting ready to waste the tax payers money and the courts time once again.

This guy could be the new poster child for 'Stupid'. Oh well, every village needs an idiot.

There is only one gun law in this country, the 2nd Amendment. All else is bureaucratic nonsense that I choose to comply with or not at my discretion.

When governments make laws, they must consider the unintended consequences.

I don't think the mayor's "semi" idea will go very far in court...OMO

Stay armed...semi or revolver...stay safe!

But guys under D.C. law anything with a removable magazine or a fixed magazine of twelve shots or more is a "machine gun".

Doesn't Fenty now come across as desperately trying to exercise whatever control he can still salvage? ....what the hell's his problem with semi's now? ... guy seems like such a self-serving loser.

You would not believe the hoops people are going to have to jump through even with this ruling. Check this out.
Quote:
§ 22-4510. Licenses of weapons dealers; records; by whom granted; conditions.

(a) The Mayor of the District of Columbia may, in his or her discretion, grant licenses and may prescribe the form thereof, effective for not more than 1 year from date of issue, permitting the licensee to sell pistols, machine guns, sawed-off shotguns, and blackjacks at retail within the District of Columbia subject to the following conditions in addition to those specified in § 22- 4509, for breach of any of which the license shall be subject to forfeiture and the licensee subject to punishment as provided in this chapter:
And my favorite part of the regulations:

Quote:
(6) No pistol or imitation thereof or placard advertising the sale thereof shall be displayed in any part of said premises where it can readily be seen from the outside. No license to sell at retail shall be granted to anyone except as provided in this section.
In another section it mentions how each sale can only take place after the Chief of Police of the District of Columbia gives their permission.
