Arrow Something to Consider this November

Quote:
Whoever is elected to the White House this November is expected to appoint two or three new members of the Supreme Court-- justices who will be making major decisions affecting the future of American society, long after that president is gone.

Your children will be living during the lifetime tenure of those justices, and your grandchildren will be living in a world shaped by the precedents that those justices set.

In a year when dissatisfaction has been expressed by both Democrats and Republicans with the presidential candidates chosen by their own parties, it is worth keeping in mind the high stakes involved in judicial appointments-- and therefore in presidential elections.

This is especially important to be kept in mind by voters who are thinking of venting their frustrations by voting for some third-party candidate that they know has no chance of being elected.

There will be a president chosen this November, and he will appoint Supreme Court justices during his term, regardless of whether you stay home or go to the polls.

His choices for the High Court will have a major impact on history, whether you vote after a sober consideration of many facts or vote on the basis of the candidate's rhetoric, style or demographics.

I apologize if this is seen as too "political" after reading the forum rules again, but how is the Second Amendment forum topic not political in nature? The Heller case was decided by a 5-4 margin, with two justices nominated by presidents who are no longer living. Same goes for eminent domain and habeas corpus.

If you read the rest of the article (they have a 250 word limit on quotes), you'll see direct discussion of the Second Amendment and specifically Heller.

There are certainly many more conservatives than liberals in this country...let's hope that, for once, they get out and vote.

Stay armed...vote early, vote often...stay safe!

Well given the many cases involving the 2nd Amendment that these Justices will be deciding on, it does kinda fit in this forum. Knowing how these threads tend to go, it still will not last long. I do agree that the future selections to SCOTUS could be the biggest issue coming up.

I'll take a shot at killing it.

It scares me to death that either of these two yahoos will have the longlasting effects on our second amendment two justices would create.
As Ann Coulter says, "It hurts, but just get drunk and vote for MCCain".

Hark! What is that odd repetitive mysterious sound that I hear a way off in the distance?
Why...it must be the clomping footsteps of a forum moderator coming nigh.
What pray tell could the reason be for the thread executioner to come hither from tither?
Could it possibly be a rogue political thread in need of the fateful life ending AX?
Methinks that possibility be so.
As the twig is bent so also must the entire tree incline from the chopping of it and then must it die severed from the roots and bear fruit no more.
