Am I dreaming?
I am afraid to ask and wonder but, is it that our message is coming across in this new age. Conventional wisdom dictates that after V-Tech we should be flooded with draconian anti-gun legislation. A decade ago we would be discussing how to stash our high cap magazines, save on reloading stuff and brace ourselves for the onslaught. But I have seen more pro-gun laws passed at an accelerated rate and I am almost like afraid I am dreaming this.
I know we are in the digital era plus the information superhighway era and that the Old Media is not adapting due mostly to political leanings (and losing power little by little) but still seems unreal that the voice of reason is being heard loud and clear. I am guessing that in this new age there is nothing more dangerous to a politician's career that an electronic grassroots with the power to get info and to be heard by independant means and the old traditional power to vote.

Agreed, also IMO they are starting to realize that it didn't work last time.
Maybe they will finally 'get it' that the people who vote for them want to protect themselves. |

I still think it's early to judge Miggy - ask the same in a year or more's time!
True the ''anti gun furore'' is muted compared to what we might have expected but - cynical me - I see political cobras lurking and waiting to strike, when it suits, rather than prematurely which might hurt their votes. I of course too - would really like to think that ''the message'' might just be getting thru - that's the optimist in me ![]()

I hope you are right Miggy. I think people are getting wise to the fact that gun control does not work. Maybe we will see a swing to the pro gun side now.
I can hope anyway.

I think its getting through.
I would have thought when we started teaching CHL classes back in '95' that eventually the area would have been saturated...however that is not the case. The classes are as big as ever, to the point that we have had to limit them. Back then, the internet was just getting started. The viewpoints of the major media were pretty slanted and some were downright socialist. All of a sudden one could get different opinions on things and read things that they had never seen before. Things travel quickly on the internet. We see things that the media wouldn't post due to time constraints, we hear things reported that never would have seen the ink on paper and we can research just about anything our hearts desire. Maybe...just maybe... People are waking up and paying attention in a way that the liberal news media cannot control.

I wouldn't dismiss the anti-gunner one bit; I think they are biding their time to "strike." Meanwhile, they chip away bit by bit....I foresee further calls to close the FTF transaction "loophole" and further attempts to ban .50 caliber and semi-automatic (mis-named as "assault weapons") rifles, and magazines above ten rounds.
Let's see how it goes after the 2008 presidental election.

The Dems are "gunshy" (pun intended). It was the issue that lost them control in the mid 90's. They are slaves to the vote and they realize that the majority of Americans are for guns. They are too scared to move on this, even in light of VT.

Do not underestimate the likes of Feinstein, Schumer, Kennedy, Pelosi & McCarthy, et al. If you think they've given up the gun control fight, you're dead wrong. As long as this gang remains in office, they are dangerous.
These people are committed to taking our guns away from us, even if it's only one little step at a time. Never forget that.

I just talked to a cousin the other day, he's going for his carry permit. He told me that he talked to two instructors that are now offering classes every Saturday instead of every other Saturday or once a month.

This upcoming presidential election is, I believe, going to be the make-or-break moment of truth for we gun owners and carriers. We need to fight HARD for the next year and a half to make sure that a) we get as many pro gun laws passed in our states as possible, b) we fund up pro gun activists like the NRA and others, c) know for SURE who we are voting for and what they stand for, d) try to win as many people over to our side as humanly possible, e) write our legislators and congressmen, f) let everyone know that we will not slip quietly into the night. We have rights, we will defend and fight for those rights.

It really should be simple.
If being shot at, pick a defense:
Being actively shot at by a gunman, with each one of the above are you better off, or worse? Even the simplest of minds should appreciate that it's far better to be safe than to merely feel safe. Having an actual ability to defend yourself trumps even the warmest and fuzziest feelings of thinking you're prepared. It's that simple. Getting through the mental blocks folks have? Some won't ever see the rationale, until they themselves are victiminzed with a gun is in their faces being forced to see reality. Even then, the realization might not get through. However, for a majority of folks, I think, the simple reality of being armed or disarmed is basic. In the U.S., the government hacks in charge of the purse strings are also deeming it their civic duty to be in charge of our lives. A lot of people have a problem with that, and when push comes to shove and a gun's in play, the last thing most folks want is some bureaucratic functionary dictating if/when one may engage in the defense of his/her own life. Getting through? To many, yes. For those endangering our rights? Full-court press. Always. 'Cause it is, truly, a matter of life and death.

Their relative quiet on gun control should not be taken as evidence that they no longer want it; understand that the democrats have simply learned that the more they shoot their mouths off about it, the more it hurts them with voters. Gun control is not an issue that will get them voted in, it's an issue that will keep them voted out; so they wait until they're already in before they start up with the anti-2A laws. |

I think people realize that we ar at war with Islam and it is for real and for keeps and it is only a matter of time until it comes to our soil on a daily basis. We NEED our firearms, more now than ever before.

I think the elected "gun grabers" are just staying low until after the election. I see enough of the liberal ilk in other rooms baying about gun control to think it is a dead issue to politicans.

And to claim that politicians are "slaves to the vote" is like saying "contractors are slaves to building materials." All of them are responsible to their electorate. It ain't just Democrats.

I'm not at war with Islam, nor has the United States government declared such. If we are, we have a strange way of prosecuting it. If you wish to say Islamic terrorists, then I'd agree, although we still have a strange way of prosecuting it.

They are at war with you. Open your eyes. Or don't. It will be on the streets of America soon enough and then you will see the real agenda, Islam does not tolerate christianity or anyone not profesing loyalty to islam.
