I guess it's never too late to put my carpenter skill to work and build a false compartment in one of my closets to hide guns and reloading equipment in case they ever try to take everything.The bad thing is if that day ever comes you won't be able to target shoot without having a swat team all over you after the first couple rounds

This boils down to the discussion I have had with my wife:

Whether the Cop is a good Cop or a bad Cop, right or wrong, if he tells you to do something, you have to do what he says. A whole lotta folks have been beaten to a pulp by Cops who wouldn't have been touched at all just because they failed to do what they were told. Cops have the authority to tell YOU what to do--you don't have the authority to disobey. Sort out the mess later in court and nobody gets hurt.

That said, I'm still going to decide as things unfold.

You know, it's a damn good thing that the Founders didn't see as many shades of grey concerning unlawful confiscation of legally owned guns as I've read here. If they only knew, they'd be rolling in their graves!

Wait to settle it in court? You gottaa be kidding! By the time your case ever got to court, your guns would have long since been destroyed, or sold on the black market.

Uh, yeah....there's a thriving black market of police confiscated guns out there... It's on the news every day - "Cops sell guns that they illegally confiscated from law abiding citizens, thugs say 'What a bargain!'"

The point of the thread, snubber, is that you will lose if you try to argue/fight with a cop on the side of the road (for example), especially if you are armed. You will not win. Ever. Period.

If you do what is asked, it is most likely that you will have no problems to begin with. If you do have your guns illegally taken, the chances are actually very good that you'll get them back (NO in Katrina is its own beast, and isn't really indicative of how most judicial systems operate).

For your sake, snubber, I hope you never offer armed resistance to police because you believe they are acting outside the scope of their authority. Jail and/or the grave are not good places to exercise your rights...

To the defense of the Founders, they had a lot on their plate and gun control, other than "don't shoot till you see the whites of their eyes", was not in question at the time.

Disaster's tend to bring out the best and the worst in people, for our elected officials it tends to be "knee jerk" reactions to problems they should have planned on instead of ignore. We as gun owners need to keep this in mind when preparing for any foreseeable disaster and plan accordingly. When the SHTF situation is in full swing is not the time to start demanding your rights and when they've kicked in your door because you started quoting some long dead Spartans and screaming "out my cold dead hands...", well don't expect the SWAT team to just disperse and leave you in peace. Expect to get stepped on, really hard; for my part I plan to invite'em in for some milk and cookies and give them all of my pellet guns and .22's. I'll ask in the strongest terms that they give me receipts for everything so that at some future date I can reclaim my property. After they've left I can get back to the business of defending my home and family for the duration.

Did those folks in Greensburg, KS get theirs back? I'm sure there must be one case where people did get their guns back, but I have only heard of people being forced to give up their guns and never getting them back. They are either "lost" or destroyed.

After reading this thread and doing a little research, I think if some sort of situation like happened in New Orleans or Greensburg Kansas happened here, I am almost positive that I would give up my guns if armed men came to get them. If I don't give them up I would almost certainly die, giving them up I have a pretty good chance of living. I would also know that I have a pretty slim chance of getting the guns back, ever.

However, I don't like it. I don't like that it could happen. I don't like that so many people are accepting of it, even if they believe it will all work out in the end. I don't like that people believe that it is normal for our "government" (which is all of us, really) to do crappy stuff to us and SOP is to go to court to get it fixed. I don't like any of it. I especially don't like me! I HATE that I would be willing to give up because of the threat of violence. I HATE that I would surrender my authority to protect myself and my family for the privilege of begging for my life for a few days more.

There is something sickening, to me, about this aspect of my personality. This does not match who I thought I was. I need to do a little soul-searching. For now, I'll just make sure that when they come to get my guns, nobody's home.

Tye, I'm as disgusted as you are in the entire situation. It is tough to roll over knowing that you are right and knowing what the right thing to do is.

If we would have had the same mentality in 1776, we wouldn't be Americans in the first place.

It really got me wondering where I stood ... I don't know, need more "soul searching"

There are so many variables that a single answer does not seem logical.
