ATTN: Va CCers - Carry in Restaurants that serve alcohol
Just wanted to let you know that both of our candidates for governor are FOR allowing CC permit holders carry in restaurants that serve alcohol.
Twice in the last several years legislation was approved by the state congress to allow this, however; both times it was vetoed by Gov Tim Kaine and Mark Warner respectively. It looks like in the next couple years its finally gonna happen ![]() Struggling to find a link at the moment to prove but this is close enough. FYI don't read anything the author of this column writes unless you hate the 2nd amendment. "Deeds and McDonnell, each of you has said that if elected, you would sign legislation allowing concealed-carry permit holders to take their hidden weapons into establishments that serve alcohol, provided those gun-packers don't imbibe." It's time for some tough questions in gubernatorial debate - Roanoke.com

Yea, that guy from the Roanoke Times is a super anti.
I don't know why the good folks of the Roanoke area put up with this tool?

Dan Casey is all in hysterics about this. He neglects to mention that 39 other states already allow CCW in restaurants and there is no blood flowing in the streets.

I've been commenting for several months there, arguing with both Dan directly, as well as some of his regular commenters (I'm "Jason" if you wish to go back and follow the debate).
Dan is not quite as fervently "anti" as he is being painted here; most importantly, he is the type of person that will listen and can have his mind changed. But it is definitely fair to say that he has an emotional blind spot to this particular issue. I've hit him over and over and over with the facts and that this is already the law elsewhere (both in comments and in personal email) and he basically has no answer. Just a few days ago I sent him a column by the Atlanta Gun Examiner about the one year anniversary of the enactment of their bar and restaurant carry law. The column pointed out that the fears of chaos of course have not come true. Dan said that he was going to write a column soon including the article I sent him as part. Dan is fair. If you go there and comment you will be heard. He virtually never deletes or edits posts and when he does, it's almost always due to profanity. So feel free to go and comment, but keep in mind that you represent the RKBA cause. Stay on topic, don't insult, cite good facts, etc. And understand that Dan is not against CCW in bars because he wants world government or is a Marxist -- it's because despite however many times the facts have been jammed in his face, he genuinely fears the "drunken shootout" scenario. Note: there is one oddity of his posting system -- when you post, it looks like it shows up instantly, but it doesn't really until he approves it. During the day and evening, this usually happens pretty quickly, and like I said, virtually all posts get approved, just thought I'd mention it as it causes some confusion. P.S.- To save you some time and sanity, don't argue any gun issue with Sandi Saunders. Just act like her posts don't exist. Trust me. Learn from my mistakes. |

We have some stupid laws in Va. to begin with but this one about takes the cake. You can do the "Virginia tuck" (open carry) and drink till you're stupid drunk (if you're so inclined). But you can't carry concealed.
The legislation that has passed overwhelmingly in the General Assembly has indicated even that consumption of alcohol would be prohibited if carrying concealed which is perfectly fine with me. The problem lies with our part-time governor and full-time DNC chairman Timmy. His time is short thankfully but I'm still giving my support to "Bob" on 11/3. Be Safe, NosaM

I can't wait till Nov. 3. For the first time in a long time, I'll not be voting on RKBA issues regarding the Governors race.

Yeah I tried to keep my (very strong) personal bias out of the original post. I'm just glad that whoever wins in November we won't have to worry about restaurant concealed carry being vetoed again.
I've have never seen a more negative campaign than the Deeds campaign. Whats worse is that it has worked to some extent. Even though McDonnell is leading by a large margin at the moment, it was even larger a couple months ago before Deeds went negative. Only recently has Deeds started seeing a backlash from his blatantly false campaign ads.

THATS GREAT! We are working on legislation here in Ohio as well that will permit the same thing. Its a real nice feeling to go over to WV and have dinner without having to disarm.
