I do my grips by hand. I have very recently just ordered a simple CNC to aid in only the backs of grips for certain weapons like the HK P7 squeezecockers. They have some very precise depressions in the back of each panel that need to be there, and this seemed the only way to make it possible to make them consistently. I will never use it for overall shaping though, I like the hand process too much.

If you get a little CNC then you can start making grips for guns like the Walther PPK/S.
Those are difficult little grips to make because of the flip side. ![]()

Todays cool wood is Zebrawood from Africa. Usually this wood is very straight veined with black to chocolate brown stright veining running through the cream colored base wood. Not hard to figure out how it got it's name.
I found a few pieces that had a somewhat less "rigid" veining pattern that I think are cool. These sets are from a couple of them. The apparent color difference in the pics is due to the chatoyance that this particular wood has. Very cool and deep and reflects the light from different angles. Both sets are bookmatched. Hope you like them! Sarge ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Starting your day off right today with natures beauty are two sets of Red Mallee Burl that were a custom order for a customer. I love the Aussie woods! I have my hands on some Horristes Burl that looks to be more deep red and tighter burled than the mallee. I'm cutting on it now and can't wait to see it done!
Anyway, hope these pics get your head started down the proper path today. Sarge ![]() ![]() |

Horristes Burl is a cousin to the Mallee Burl above. It usually is a darker richer red, although this can vary. In the example shown below (gov size utlra thins) you can see the rich color and the tight burl figure. There is also the added bonus of a little sapwood (the lighter cream color) which really just sets this particular set off. Australia has some of the worlds most beautiful woods.
Enjoy! Sarge ![]() ![]() |

Natural blue in these mammoth tooth slabs. As if the mammoth tooth isn't rare enough on it's own. I set them into cocobolo for a little orange/red contrast.
That's the beauty for the day. Hope it starts your head off right. Sarge ![]() ![]() |

Today's pic is of another Aussie wood - Horristes Burl. Great color and "movement" through the wood on this one. This particular set also has some sapwood around the edges for a little "extra". Beautiful stuff!
