The Algerian Field Jacket -- how warm is that? I mean, is it a lighter weight jacket? Is it meant for really cold days? Can't tell from the picture. Also, are they true to size?

It is not a heavy jacket. It is probable 45F+ weather and then you'll need layers under it.

There are some customer reviews under the Woolrich Algerian jacket, you might want to read them. We are also carrying the New Eotac jackets (there was a split within woolrich and the guys that originally designed Woolrich Elite Products left the company 2yrs ago and just recently launched their own line of clothing. Eotac has a better designed version of the original 1950's Algerian Jacket

Let me ask this -- is there a true winter jacket/coat in the catalog?

No, but I have heard that Eotac has a lot of new coat/jackets coming out early next year.
