That is wonderful. I am sure that he will enjoy that forever. I have a pair of 10/22s for my sons as well. Well done.

Yes, there is a Santa Claus - his other name is Airslot. A most wonderful and generous gift for a special young boy!

I just want to thank you all for your positive comments. It's a little overwhelming actually. The gift of the rifle was just something I was compelled to do.

Thank you all again and I hope you all have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

    Update

Spent the majority of the day with my friend and his family. We held the Ruger back until near the end of their gift exchange. His Dad explained to him that his Dad, Granddad and both Uncles had given their approval. He was absolutely speechless when he unwrapped it and realized that it was the real deal. One Uncle gave him an additional two bricks of ammo. I handed his Dad the action lock assy.

Later, after things had calmed down, we had our "Man to Man" talk. He knows the safety rules in addition to keeping his grades up and the continued "Yes Sir, No Mam" behavior. I think we're well on the way to growing up another good man.

Next is a trip to Granddad's farm to get him some range time.

All in all, a very good day.

Thanks for the update - I was wondering how it played out. Well done!

I hope there will be pics forthcoming from the first outing!

This is a heartwarming example of old school passing along the love of the firearms hobby. Once a common interchange between generations of family members, less so, but not unheard of between two generations who were not blood relatives, such a kind and encouraging gesture ought to be more a part of today's shooting sports world.

There's not a thing wrong with adults learning by attending the shooting courses popularly offered, but instilling responsibility and a measure of good ol' common horse sense in 'em while they're young goes far in fitting them to be accomplished and conscientious adult members of the shooting fraternity.

    You done reeeal good airslot!

Airshot that is a great story, I don't think I could add anything to what the other members have said. But good on you and will you adopt me?

I loved the word you chose - compelled - from the heart no doubt. If only we would all follow those promptings the world would be a much better place.

As an aside, after my Dad gave me my first shotgun and all the teaching that goes with that, I still vividly remember the first time we hunted together with it- now Dad was NYPD - he said, "If you ever point that thing at me, I'll wrap it around a tree". I miss that man.

Got a range report (no pics) from his Dad.

He burned about a hundred rounds making Coke cans dance. Had a grin from ear to ear the entire time. Not a single hiccup from the gun.
