London's riots have been going on for three days now, and have spread to several other major English cities.

Forced to strip naked in the street: Shocking scenes as rioters steal clothes and rifle through bags as people make their way home | Mail Online

Do you think there could be a trigger that sets up something similar over here? The English have effectively disarmed themselves, so I wonder how this scenario would play out differently on this side of the pond?

This is what I believe also!!!!

It could be sooner than we think!!!!!!

The U.K. is fertile breeding grounds for this type of chaos. It's a worthy lesson to take note of.
I completely agree! I think that the fact that firearms, rifles, knives, pepper spray, batons, tasers or such other self-defense weapons are forbidden to be owned and carried by civilians, just makes matters even worse for civilians. People don't even have the means to defend themselves, their families or their properties.

in most parts of the US the exact same if not worse scenario could play out, in fact it could be a lot worse because many of the bad people have access to weapons. if and when it does happen here those of you in urban areas could find yourself in the middle of troubles, a real SHTF situation that would force you to takes steps either to bug out or stand your ground, either way I hope that you've taken steps like having weapons, bug out bags and supplies to get you through an insurrection that I believe is inevitable.

Not only could play out, they already have played out. The burning, the looting and the mindless violence we are seeing in England are reminiscent of the urban riots of the 1960s here in the US. Those were pretty rough times for urban violence and, yes, you bet it can happen here. In these times we are living in it could be more widespread and more ethnic inclusive as more people of all races sink ever deeper into economic despair.

lol...snippet from one of the articles...
"After cutting short his Tuscany holiday to deal with the worsening public disorder crisis, Mr Cameron said today: 'We will do everything necessary to restore order to Britain's streets and to make them safe for the law-abiding."
### -> No you wont. You've already said as much. You've already said you wont even use water canons or even dummy bullets(plastic). The rioters, moochers and looters have absolutely no fear of repercussions of their actions. They know for certain that NOTHING will happen to them.

They know for certain that NOTHING will happen to them.
You can't be more wrong. They will get a stern talking to while being looked at with a very cross face. They might even get an "I'm disappointed in you."

Can it happen here? I don't see why not, we have had riots before and even a civil war. Why would now be any different? With our current set of government "leaders" (both sides of the aisle) and our economy and joblessness I don't think it would take a lot to spark some civil unrest. Certain places will squelch it quickly, Texas is one I think it would only last a few hours, and others will act just like the English "leadership" and let it run.

The first riots in London were supposedly an excuse to the shooting dead of a 'BG' by the police.
Similar to what happened after the Rodney King beating and other incidents etc.
Quite obviously, riots following the initial upset, were/are simple criminals looting, and doing whatever they can within a lawless moment/environment.

The UK has seen some serious rioting before, and no doubt it will see some serious rioting at a later time in history. - It even surprised me that it had taken so long for this to happen, since the last riots were so long ago, - I can't even remember exactly when they were?

The same happens all over the world, and has happened before as mentioned here, in the USA often.
Left-wingers generally, they just need an excuse, be it a conservative government, cuts in social benefits, a war or two, or the death of a criminal from a 'minority' community, - etc.

sadly, most go to ranges where they punch paper. often draw from a holster is not allowed, nor are 'fast' shots due to range rules.
its hard to think strategy when your feet are planted and your rounds are timed 1 per second.
fortunately my range is private and we can do these things.

yesterday i set up 2 IDPA cardboards at 20 feet and put down sticks for the bus door.
rules were just engage the 2 BG's with the rifles with your carry gun.
as fast as i saw them standing at the door i moved to the aisle and fired with my p239 through the windows-2 shots each.
most before me went to the door and fired through it.
near as they explained this action was cause it seemed the right thing to do...fire through the door straight into the BG's rather than from the side unseen by them

about all i can say about this way of thinking is--if you think you are in a 'fair' fight than your tactics suck.

more gangs and flash mobs abroad and in our cities and different crazy every day.
and as the financial conditions get worse in ways as yet unknown....
once entitlements are changed, the cities may boil over and the suburbs will get burned. literally and figuratively.

as apvbguy points out--are you ready?
and i ask--ready for what?--there are so many bad events that may happen and in so many ways and to varying degrees based on factors
that will be discussed by scholars in the future. how does that help us now?

ramble off.

FYI, youtube guy nutnfancy, posted a decent vid about WROL (Without Rule Of Law) recently. It's his second vid on this topic.

These riots started because their bobbies shot and killed a man AND many have said they are tired of the police "stop-search-siezure" tactics of investigating anyone who they think looks 'suspectious'.

Great Britian has disarmed it's population, outlawed self-defense, and given it's police powers that puts them above question from the people their paid to 'protect'.

Most of the rioting I read/seen so far is just a bunch of thugs looting and misbehaving........and the 'law-abiding' have a duty to retreat.

God Bless America!

I do think wide spread riots are coming to USA, so far, we've only had localized riots. Its only a matter of time IMO.
I'm with SIXTO on this. It'll be over something 'diffrent', but something.......

Best thing I can think of is I know a lot of people that shoot and are law abiding citisens,between us there are several hundred pistols and rifles,a few legal Full Autos,and long range precision rifles with several thousand rounds of ammo on hand,and a secure ranch outside the city limits with excellent fields of fire

What is it that people say? - "No crisis should go to waste", - or something like that?

Excuses for more police powers, gun control, social 'help' (welfare,) and whatever else the left-wing politicians want to do to more control your lives.

Is the precursor the "Flash Mob" criminal actions we're starting to see here in the USA?

#16 ·
Well, if it happens here, which it just might if the economy gets worse, I'm just going to stay at home with doors locked, wife and I will have guns on hips and ready to go should the rioting visit my neighborhood.

I would also suspect those people who own local businesses might try to stay and defend their livelihood. I know I would. My computer business is all on-line sales, but I've thought many times about trying to open a store. If I did and the riots came, I'd be there with an AR-15 ready to defend. There might be a large pile of bodies outside of my shop and I should easily be able to claim self-defense on each and every one of them.

sounds good until the weapons are confiscated like what happened in new orleans after katrina

What gets me is the people willingly giving up their clothes and belongings to these thugs. Personally I would rather wake up in the hospital after taking a few with me than submissively giving up my belongings.... they may get me but those one or two brave souls who attacked first are getting bit and eye gouged on the way down and will remember me for a long time.

A few .357 Magnum center punches might make a well remembered impression on any who survived them. Here's a clip of the King riots in LA. Watch the Korean shop owners.

I'm headed to London next week for 5 nights and I'm a little nervous. To make matters worse, I cannot carry pepper spray, a baton or a decent knife, since the firearms regulation is very tough in the UK. I might have to avoid going out after 10:00PM and avoiding areas in North and South London.

#22 ·
Don't worry about it.

These riots are not in the tourist/visiting areas.
Think of New York and the Bronx for example.
Your hotel staff will be fully able to advise you about where to go/not to go (if there is still trouble next week? - Doubtfull IMHO.)

You will no doubt be just fine and have a good time. - Don't restrict yourself to 10:00 pm. - You'll miss the fun;)

UGH. Here are some comments in the Amazon.UK listing for carrying a kubotan
Image

The item itself arrived in perfect condition. It is sturdy and very comfortable to grip. Itss what it says on the tin, but there's a catch...

All the information I found on the Internet suggests that carrying a keyring-kubotan is futile. The moment you use it to defend yourself it becomes a damage inflicting weapon and you become a criminal (and can be prosecuted as such). The only scenario where you can legally use a kubotan outside your home is: "comming back from/going to martial arts training (in use of a kubotan), you were attacked and could only respond with equal force by making use of a kubotan". Anything else is interpreted as: "you were carrying an object that has an obvious use as a weapon"; it's basically the same (in the eyes of the law) as buying a spiked baseball bat with a small loop that holds keys. This should be clearly mentioned on the product page. You do not have to believe me, do your own research.

If you are a skinny/weak guy like me, the best advice in self-defence I can give is: learn to run faster, scream louder and avoid leaving your home.
In response someone wrote:

Section 1 of the prevention of crime act (1953) deals with offensive weapons.

(1) Any person who without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, the proof whereof shall lie on him, has with him in any public place any offensive weapon shall be guilty of an offence, and shall be liable
(a) on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or a fine not exceeding ÂŁ200, or both;
(b) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding four years or a fine not exceeding one hundred pounds, or both.

(3) A constable may arrest without warrant any person whom he has reasonable cause to believe to be committing an offence under subsection (1) of this section, if the constable is not satisfied as to that person's identity or place of residence, or has reasonable cause to believe that it is necessary to arrest him in order to prevent the commission by him of any other offence in the course of committing which an offensive weapon might be used.

(4) In this section "public place" includes any highway, or in Scotland any road within the meaning of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 and any other premises or place to which at the material time the public have or are permitted to have access, whether on payment or otherwise; and "offensive weapon" means any article made or adapted for use for causing injury to the person, or intended by the person having it with him for such use by him or by some other person.

Since a Kubotan is MADE as a pressure point weapon and has only one purpose, even if disguised as a keyring, IT IS AN OFFENSIVE WEAPON.

Carrying a Kubotan in any place which is not a dwelling will be an offence. If you are stopped and searched by a police officer, you may very well be arrested and charged with the offence of possession of an offensive weapon (Max Penalty 4 years and/or a fine)

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE IT OR INTEND TO USE IT FOR THE OFFENCE. TO BE COMMITTED! However, you may have a defence if you can provide (and prove) a reasonable excuse for having it.
It's horrible to see law abiding citizens treated like criminals just because they are trying to defend themselves.

Let's not allow this to happen to us in the USA.

It's coming and it's just a matter of time. Low wage hourly production type jobs will continue to migrate overseas. Nothing will prevent that other than draconian laws that would only impede our economy in the end. The unemployed will be the young, the uneducated, and the minorities. They will also be the ones feeling the pressure from the immigrant population competing for the few low skill and unskilled labor jobs that remain. At some point, all those spending cuts that Washington is ballyhooing are going to kick in. When the food stamps, unemployment benefits, etc are treated to the budget axe, many of the recipients will express their displeasure by trashing their neighborhoods. From there, they will move into the nicer neighborhoods. The gangs will mostly be young and minorities. They will organize with social networking sites. As the rioting spreads others may join in to take advantage of the situation, but the primary perpetrators will be under thirty years of age. Unlike London, many of ours will be carrying weapons. Having grown up on a steady diet of violent movies and video games, they will shoot you and not give it a second thought.

With the Castle Doctrine in place in many state in the US and the mood of American people about self defense, I would not think that a riot would get very far before it ran into a wall of bullets.

If LE will only retreat or not police as in other riots, and people are left to their own then don't come around to trying to rob, steal, and rape unless your have a good place to to be buried after the riot is over.

As to UK, I believe self defense is a God given right and not a government place to restrict so that it citizen has to depend on only the thin thin blue line for protection.

When a government can not or will not protect its citizens it looses its right to rule.

I would not be surprised if the government of UK has some very big changes soon.

JMHO-YMMV

3 days of the food trucks not making it to the supermarkets and it will happen here within that week.
That is only one of many potential triggers.

Prediction - We will have rioting here in the U.S. either right before, during, or immediately following the next presidential election.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK - Don't turn it into a political thread just write that down...and remember that you heard it here first.
The London/England riots are part of a troubling trend. I like to look at a variety of sources for information concerning what is going on in my backyard and around the world. I don't limit myself to mainstream media, or left or right biased news agencies. That said, I have been looking at the direction of the financial markets, cost of living, and a variety of other things that are out there and I have come to this conclusion.
We are headed for some very trying times here in the United States, and around the globe. The disparity between the have's and have not's is growing. The flash mobs that we are seeing in the United States, the increasing levels of break-ins, and most recently the young siblings in Florida that have caused a nationwide manhunt for robbing a bank are unfortunately just the tip of the iceberg. I don't buy in to the conspiracy theories out there, I believe that our country has been headed in this direction for quite some time because of poor decisions by individuals and our government (both parties). What people don't realize is that the United States has faced tough times in the past, and we have found a way to overcome, and I believe that we will again. Is it possible that our country will look different? Most likely. But this is still the greatest country in the world.
This stuff happens with pretty much any government. France is currently on their fifth republic, which doesn't include their history of monarchy. Governments either need to change or the people will change it. Currently, the United States is slowly turning into a police state that uses fear mongering to coerce the people into thinking that they need the current government.
Maybe Ron Paul in 2012 will change some things.
I'm not a moderator and don't claim to be one on TV, but I think this thread might be venturing into "thread-closing" territory. However, I'm not so sure it's even possible to keep the London discussion and what/why is happening there, out of the political realm.
