I would walk up to him and thank him for exercising his right to bear arms. He would notice the open carried pistol on my hip and we would have a conversation. I might invite him to have a coffee with me and perhaps invite him to go to the range with me.

I would not be so paranoid as to assume he was there to shoot the place up.

Not sure I would be so cavalier.
Guy shopping in a WM open carrying an AR with over 100 rounds of ammo wearing tacticool attire.
He may not have broken any laws except the law of being stupid.

He could have been on his way to or from a Missouri Militia meeting. That is a legal and non-radical, but not government controlled militia and they have exercises several times a year where they show up in full kit. He might not have wanted to leave his weapons in the car.

My feeling is this: If they guy is following the law and not brandishing or aiming, he is no threat until he is. If he were there to commit mayhem, he would be doing that, not walking around with a shopping cart. I also believe that if we don't support carriers who are obeying the laws, even if they show bad judgement, we are giving up on those laws. There are plenty of people who would be panicked by seeing your EDC printing under your T-shirt.

Also, this is yet one more reason not to go to Walmart. How many incidents at that one chain do we need before people get it?

I certainly wouldn't want to talk to the guy.

Concealed or open carrying a pistol is one thing. Going into Walmart kitted up for combat with a rifle, tactical gear etc is for whack jobs, wannabe commandos and attention seekers.

This guy is a total maroon and will only hurt gun rights. Do you think he convinced a single person to support the 2nd Amendment with a stunt like that?

At TDI, a very similar scenario is run, in many of the advanced handgun classes.

As often as not, like it or not, the guy gets shot in the parking lot.

All of the news reports I have seen state that the armed subject was detained at gunpoint by an off-duty fireman who, presumably, was carrying a firearm of his own. When police arrived, the subject was arrested.

What was the subject arrested for? One report indicates he was charged with making a terroristic threat, not by way of utterance or actions but merely by his armed presence.

Assuming the charges are dropped, does the subject have a cause of action against the fireman for unlawful detainment?

    I'll stay tuned.

Considering the timing, I would have probably been very wary of him.

I would have two potential thoughts about it:

    1) he is either an asshat clown
    2) he is up to something

Either way, I would probably keep an eye on him.

I personally think the reaction of the people was very normal.

I'd have eyes on him and my hand on my gun. In view of recent occurrences his timing makes him a homicidal man, or a suicidal man, or a just plain stupid assclown. I'm going to anticipate any and all of these possibilities.

Agree...Unless you are a mind reader you just don't know...I sure wouldn't ask the moron either or approach him.
There is nothing in here worth sticking around for...Now if he just had a sidearm i would make a mental note

Really, I will bet a lot of the police that responded showed up in full kit to arrest someone who violated no laws we know of. Were they just looking for attention? Or do you feel there should be a different standard for agents of the state?

100 likes! Carrying a slung rifle is equivalent to carrying a holstered handgun. Any deviation from those conditions warrants a response; otherwise continue shopping.

N.B. Not saying I think this guy was wise to do this, but he reportedly was not actively threatening anyone.
