Never bothered to ask, I could have thrown a few detectives names I knew on that dept, but it's not something I usually do just to get into a fair.

I recently attended my son's college graduation in Tacoma, Washington and had to go through a metal detector upon entering the building and was turned away because I had a tiny key chain knife which has a 1" blade. I had to take it back to my car that was 1/4 mile away. It's getting ridiculous!

There is a difference in something one has to do, like work vs something one chooses to do like go to a sporting event.
I've worked where carry was a felony, logically I didn't; if carry would get one fired and could not easily get a replacement job I wouldn't carry, not much of a choice.
    Not a choice: courthouse, work
Is a choice: restaurants, sporting events, entertainment, airplane, cruise ship
Last time I got on a plane they measured my knife and handed it back to me because the 3'' blade was plain edge (not serrated) 1987 - I was a few months shy of being old enough to buy a pistol.

When the alumni association send request for donation in the future I would write:
"I would have donated a generous amount of money but those metal detectors at graduation took away my right and your donation"
across it and mail it back.

Man that brings back a memory! In the late 70s I had to fly to VA for work. At the time I, like a lot of guys at that time, carried a Buck knife on my belt. I flew out wearing it with no issues going through metal detectors and didn't get caught until I had a layover in Chicago on the way back. They took it and checked it for me but I had no idea what they put it in. So I'm at baggage claim in SeaTac and out comes a big cardboard box, like they ship apples in. Sure enough, there was my knife!

One of the consequences of the open carry fight was that MANY restaurants and other venues that had no signs automatically put them up

The BIGGEST issue to me is....... All this fight ..... and I STILL havent seen an OC here in North Texas after these many months

We took 3 steps forward ond 10 steps back with OC in Texas IMHO

The people that HAD to have OC .... dont seem to be OC'ing

I got in with a pocket knife, sd/knife by palming it holding my arms up to be wanded. They didn't catch it, I got in and repocketed it but not using the clip which might be seen. The woman I was with was shocked I could get by them or would even try to, but the fair was not a place to be without a weapon and I'd not have entered without the clip folder.

Wow, I just can't imagine what people who say the above are thinking? Is their internal imaginary life like a 1990s Steven Seagal movie? Do they picture themselves standing in the middle of a bunch of gang member bodies covered in blood with a folding knife in their hand? Do they REALLY go to a Fair thinking they can handle any problems by stabbing someone to death and that it is a likely event?

To me, that's like going swimming in shark-infested waters with a spear gun and not thinking 'gee should I really be doing recreational swimming here?'.

If this person (not picking on Brownie, really) has friends with them, do they imagine being able to teleport across the ground to their side and stab someone trying to shove them?

Come ON, people. This is a ridiculous notion. If you take a bladed weapon into a location with metal detectors and stab someone you don't get a magical pass and get out of jail free card. EVEN IF you have to use it because you're attacked by two gang members in the restroom, you're going to be arrested and indicted for manslaughter and illegal possession of a prohibited weapon.

And the upside? You get to go to a fair and eat cotton-candy?

If you're going to do this come hell or high-water, at least take something that you can ACTUALLY use and which will give you some enhanced SD, such as a metal cane and a large, high-impact plastic pocket flashlight, or a ballistic shielded backpack. You can keep from being harmed without having to go on the offensive and get arrested.

On the likely event part, I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you haven't been to the midway of the NM State fair in the last decade. And no, I don't think I can handle any problems with a folding knife. Although, I think I would be more likely to sneak in that than a metal cane.

Any tool/weapon is better than NO weapon if there's a problem [ particularly when one has substantial training in that particular tool ]. The element of surprise carries a lot of weight when the gang bangers believe everyone inside the gates are disarmed sheep. Being on home ground, having one of the leo's make a call to one of the Det's. I knew on that dept would likely circumvent much of the initial investigation [ particularly when I had trained their swat guys in defensive edged weapons prior ].

As for being indicted, that will depend on whether one can articulate lawful sd requirements or not, not because you used a knife that was prohibited entry. That would be a separate charge, if any, depending on the circumstances;.

Beyond Schools, post office and court houses the signs have no force of law( at least last time I checked)where I live and some places I need to do business with have "the signs" so I carry anyway knowing that if Im asked to leave I will leave and having done nothing wrong. For how liberal brainwashed Washington is Im surprised I don't see more anti carry signs. I do however avoid Seattle and rest of the big cities like they have the Black Plague, as far as I'm concerned they do. Im not going unarmed anywhere unless I absolutely have to. I have a next door neighbor who has lost his job due to behavior and drug use. He now sleeps days and spends his night howling at the moon whether its out or not, he claims to be native American. Night before last at 3:00 AM he started a shouting rant about white people and all the evil of white people. I can hear him scratching around in his yard when I leave for work. I used to put my EDC in my lunch backpack knowing that I would have to put it away anyway when I go into work. Now I carry it on me with a round chambered. Last Monday I stopped by my local river to fish a little after work, my car was stolen in less than one hour...sorry about the ramble but IM NOT disarming because a bunch of idiots have been brainwashed or have agenda's

Do you state upfront that you won't do business there because of their 2A stance, or do you hide behind the anonymity of the internet and just say things that aren't factual for the sole purpose of hurting their business?

Look who is running the show here and it no surprise that they would turn a responsible person away with a small tool. Meanwhile gang violence is at all time high's.....

I've been there, but not recently.
When I was there last, midway was crowded with all kinds of characters, and some rather evident gangs.
That was in the early 90's and know from relatives that it has not improved.
I moved toOregon, and would not even return, if family was not there.
I spent almost 25 years there, and even graduated HS there.
Times then were tough, but nothing like today.
