If youíre going to carry keep it secure.

Just dumping it in a pocket does not work well.

Gunfire in Walmart as man pulls up pants and weapon falls out of pocket, officials say

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (AP/WRIC) Ė Police in Virginia say a small handgun went off inside a Walmart restroom when it fell out of a manís pocket as he pulled up his pants.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch on Wednesday reported the gun went off after it hit the floor Tuesday at the store in Midlothian, prompting an evacuation and police response.

Chesterfield police Lt. Brad Conner says two other customers in the restroom were not hurt. The round went into a bathroom stall. Conner says gun owner Clifford C. Shook Jr. left the store without notifying anyone of the situation.

Conner says police tracked down Shook after reviewing video surveillance and interviewing a person who had been with him at the store.

Another good example of the lack of consciousness and awareness on the part of some who carry guns. Fortunately no one got hurt. But when incidents like the get reported on local news it just turns up the heat on gun owners. Bad examples burn good guys.

Well at least he was in the head when it happened. Bet he sat right back down and finished emptying his bowels.

I am not a advocate of pocket carry but there have be occasions I've carried a S&W M640-38Spl with a pocket holster. Other wise my EDC is a S&W Shield 9x19mm carried in a belt holster that is not flimsy but rather secure no matter the physical movements. The indifference of some individuals in regards to safe concealed weapon carry is astounding!

I'm always suspicious when I hear about stories where the gun just goes off from falling out of a pocket. I'm more inclined to believe he was in there messing around with it, and most likely nothing is wrong with that gun.

If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words, cars make people drive drunk, and spoons make people fat.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

That, or he possibly did drop it, but then reached for it and pulled the trigger when he grabbed it.

And this is why folks shouldn't be allowed to pocket carry!!! Pocket carry should be boycotted by any self respecting gun owner.....oh wait that was the Starbucks "pig" thread where one duffus done screwed up and we were boycotting Starbucks. Sorry my bad.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them.....well, I have others.

    - modern guns are drop-safe
    - something is missing from the story
    - he was probably fondling the gun while he was crapping
    - but it shouldn't have 'went off' with modern inertia firing pins and transfer-bars/saftey blocks, etc..

If one is going to be lackadaisical and carry without a holster then empty chamber is appropriate.
I figure empty chamber advocates are probably unenthusiastic enough about self defense to do as much, yet somehow realize admitting that on a gun forum unwise.
I'm not inclined to disarm for a concert, game, (entertainment) and I ain't going on a plane or cruise.
