    85gr 9mm for self defense

    Cleaning up my ammo cabinet, and came across a box of "Dynamic Research Tech" 9mm 85gr HP. Isn't this awfully light?

    I run 115 Gold Dot JHPs minimum. Yours may have some esoteric thoughts behind the light weight, I just donít know what those would be.

    I also have some 145 GD JHP.

    Can you find any specs on the ammo? Itíd be interesting to see them!

    sounds like the weight of a frangible round. Way too light for adequate penetration to the vitals.

    Get rid of it or shoot it at the range for kicks.

    That's one of the gimmick rounds from around 2013 or so.

    I believe that would qualify as Paul Harrell's hyper loads (or something like that), what I call gimmick loads. I tried one, just for fun. I don't call it a group, just splatter.

    Some people like the weirdo ammo for self defense. The super lightweight, the weird bullet designs, the strange materials, etc. We call those people dummies. Id take it to the range and blast it for fun and load up the serious use ammo for serious use.

    Yep! I thought I would never say this, but... I would prefer a .380 with a 94 gr flat tip FMJ in this instance!
