    So I got a j frame

I was kinda holding out for a 442 no lock, but there were none at the show today.

However, they did have several 642 no locks. So I bought one. Couldn't argue with a no lock for 352 bucks.

Just punched the bore and cylinders. Will take it for a test drive tonight.

Here is the review in advance: it's a j frame, it shot good, handled fine, etc. It is snappy, the sights suck, but is a fine pocket gun.

I'll get some decent grips on it for show and tell, and then post some pics.

Good price, and about the same kind of review I would give one.

That's my wife's EDC. Great gun at a great price.
I know little on the subject so I'll speak at length.

    Just got my first J-frame a while back - a 442 no-lock. I'm impressed with it!

    Bet you'll like your 642.

    That's a good price.

    I bought a 442 (lock)last ear for $369 shipped.

Liked the size, but couldn't find any grips that I liked for it,.
and the DAO trigger pull was Heavy.

I try not to modify triggers these days.

My new SP-101 is bigger and heavier, but has the hammer that
    I like very well.

The 38/38+P that I shoot out of it is pretty gentle compared to
a J frme or even LCR that I've owned in the past.

You can aklso add a Big Dot or other sight to a Ruger, but not the
    442/642 if I'm correct?

If you're like me, a S&W snubbie will be one of the most logical purchases you have ever made. Out of everything I own, my 442 sees duty probably 1/2 the time. Hope you enjoy yours. Congratulations!

J-Frames are my favorite. I like to shoot them and I carry Two at a time most days. I paint the sights and change grips for long practices. I pocket carry one and carry the other AIWB. My carry load is Speer Gold Dot 135gr 38+P. Sometimes I'll carry my 7 shot Taurus or a SP101 but my 442 is always in my pocket. I carry reloads in speed loaders or speed strips.

Think about adding an XS Big Dot sight. I put one on my j frame (360) and it makes a world of difference!

It will serve you well. I have the 442 and it is a great pocket carry in most social situations.

    So I got a j frame

    I predict satisfaction.

I've been carrying a 642 for eight years now.
