My LCP with Magguts review

Just for fun I purchased a Magguts spring kit for my LCP custom. The idea is to add a round to the factory 6 round magazine while still using the factory magazine plate. Here is my take, short and sweet. Don't trust it.
While the 7th round fit in the magazine fine the magazine is a bear to seat in the gun, I mean you have to either slam it hard or press it very hard with both hands. This puts pressure on the magazine catch that it was not designed for. The magazines are steel but, I feel this is unacceptable on a carry gun. Out of 4 magazines full and several with only 2 rounds loaded I had two FTF's which are the first I have had with the gun so...bye, bye Magguts.

Sacrificing reliability for one round or any rounds for that matter is a poor choice.

I think this is adding to my thought of keeping carry guns stock, at least internally.

P.S. Also trying one in a G43 just for range practice and so far it has run perfectly so I am not down on the idea completely just on the LCP version. I will review that and some other spare magazine extensions (Taran +1, Vickers +2) after more shooting.

I absolutely agree - if they don't work, they don't work. Man how disappointing! Sorry.

I love my Magguts for my G42. They work like a charm. There is no slamming of the mag to insert, there is no failures of any kind. Mine work great.

There is one thing about the Magguts that drives me crazy though. On one mag of the 4 I put them into, the spring sticks out a bit. Enough to make loading the first round a pain if you don't push it in. But in spite of that, there are no problems with it once loaded.

Now that I think about it... it is only the one. Maybe I put the springs in incorrectly. Ok, I feel a little dumb now. Anyway, like I said, they work great in my Glock. Even the one with the ... uh, maybe backwards springs lol. I would be shocked if they didn't work in yours.

Good luck!

Well, so far the G43 version has been flawless and goes into the gun like a stock mag and seems to have the same "give" on the top round like a stock mag. Maybe Glocks just have more magazine room to begin with? Glad yours is working too.

Thank you for the review. Personally I do not feel that one extra round with a non-factory spring in the magazine is worth taking a chance, even though most people have positive reviews of the maguts springs. I bought another gun that holds more rounds.

And it was a good excuse to buy another gun! :image035:

You can buy the seven round magazines like the one I carry in my LCP. They add a little to the length of your grip but still look neat in the gun. I carry the seven round in the gun and the spare ten rounder in my pocket just in case things get way out of hand.

I agree. I usually carry it with a factory 7 round and a Promag 10 round spare as well. This was just an experiment for when I carry the factory 6 round in tighter pockets. Live and learn, back to my usual method of carry.

I have Magguts for my P238 and Bodyguard 380. Never had a single problem in hundreds of rounds.

I will say if you don't follow the instructions carefully it is easy to assemble the springs backwards because it is counter intuitive.

The one I got for my 238 was already assembled. I really like having the extra round.

That is true especially the "cup" between the coil spring and the "Z spring". I have checked it several times but, not against checking my work again. Thanks

Same with my Shield. Magguted both the 7 and 8 rd mags with no problems. Now I have an LCP I'll probably maggut at least one mag.

I have no experience with Mag-guts. I too use the factory 6 or 7 round magazines depending on pants pockets or IWB carry. I do have a Promag 10 rounder that is difficult to properly seat with 10. Works easily with 9.
