I also think the .380 is a decent choice for outdoors enthusiasts to carry when hunting, fishing, and hiking or even if they are out in public areas. These days you simply canít be too careful going anywhere. Put one in your gear bag or in the vehicle when you travel. The .380 is a reasonable compromise for these uses.

They both make a 9mm hole and with the proper ammo can reach the CNS.

    Here we go again...

"New ammo" technology......blah blah blah. A 380 is a 380, that needs to be accepted prior to carrying it.

Well, technically the 380 has always been 9mm.

I dont think its the "new 9mm" at all. There is no advantage to carrying a 380. Not capacity, not muzzle energy, or anything. The only thing that is going for it is that its available in little tiny pistols. 9mm can be had in everything from a gun as large as the G34 all the way down to the P938. The caliber has its uses, I own a .380, but its no 9mm.

So with all the "technological advances" in ammo, is the 9mm the new 10mm?

That could be a fun article to write, then pull up a stump and a cold one to watch to fur fly.

I like my LCP that being said it would not be my first or second choice for a woods walking gun. My trusty Single Six w/ .22 mag cylinder and 5 1/2" bbl is pretty close to ideal to me for those purposes. It's far more accurate, has equal or better muzzle energy, can handle shot shell loads, and is more versatile in an outdoors setting. I have humanely dropped quite a wide variety of game over the years with my Single Six. I just can't imagine having done that with my LCP. Just my .02 worth!

I don't think I would put it in the realms of a good outdoors gun (hiking, fishing...). I wouldn't even put a similar sized 9mm in that category. Unless you are going strictly for weight reduction where ounces matter. And then I would still not be relaxed knowing I had my 380 along with me in bear country.

Which round would you rather be hit with?

Your choice will probably answer a lot of questions.

    Good point PA,
When I'm heading into the supes [ which is bear and mountain lion country ], the ppk hasn't ever been considered as an option.

I love this question. Personally, I wouldn't want to get hit in the face by a dead mackerel thrown by a 97 year old grandma.
