    SP-101 + XS Big Dot = I like!

I totally enjoy shooting my SP-101 9mm, it is accurate @ 7 yds, easy to load and reload, VERY controllable, nothing worth reporting on ‘felt recoil’ department. I just luv it!

But as many have already suggested, the factory front sight gotta go. After searching around, decided on a XS Big Dot.

Received it today and on my SP in no time. I did need to fit the sight a little, otherwise installation is a breeze.

The XS makes a night and day different, so much more easier to see/aim, and it looks good on the SP too :-)

Will have to find out how much it changes my POA/POI. Will report back.

    I LIKE it !

Much easier to see vs the stock, black, ramped front sight.

I painted the ramped surface on mine with a durable yellow/green epoxy zinc chromate paint. That helped a lot.

I don't like a big honkin' headlight staring back at me between the target and my line of sight.

With my old eyes, I not only need a "headlight" I need the high beam to be on! I just put an XS regular dot on my LCR, and it is nice, but not enough. Give me a searchlight, if you please. This thread is timely for me, because I am considering an SP101.

@wagon : Is that the factory finish, or have you done some polishing on that gun? It looks nice.

Bone stock, did not do any polishing to the outside.

But I did polish the internal though, and when you bring home a SP, check out M*Carbo kit — I put one in, plus the internal polishing, my SP has a smoooth trigger pull at 4.7# . So far 375 rounds down range without light strikes drama.

    Happy shopping!

    SP-101 + XS Big Dot = I like!

Except for the front sight and the M*Carbo spring kit, it is bone stock, polishing was only done to the internals.

May be just visual / lighting effect?

Nice. I put one on my 2.25” dao version about a decade ago. Had pictures of it, but photobucket owns the picture now....

That's a nice looking shooter, wagon, congratulations. I'm not sure I could do well with a front sight that large, but sure glad it does the job for you.

    Thanks guys.

Yes, the XS is kinda big, but I expect it will serve good for 5 - 7 yd point / shoot application. Actually I bought it ‘for my wife’ but she leaves it to me to first dial it in... before she will shoot it. LOL

I really enjoying shooting this snub.

Like this any better, Mike ?

(Sorry for the poor sight alignment but with the camera and the gun dancing all around, this was a difficult picture to take.)

Works OK but I think I WOULD like the big, honkin' headlight staring back at me. YMMV.

(I do remember that night sights don't work well for your own particular flavor of video perception.)

I used to run the Big Dot on my SP101 for a few years, but then ended up switching to the Std Dot and liked it a lot better. I'd lost some precision at longer distances...in all honesty I think part of it was due to my eyes changing with age and the rounded top shape of the front sight. The Std Dot solved that problem.

From a year or so ago here is two cylinders worth of something somewhat potent at 15 yards probably 158gr XTP's at about 1150fps or so. IIRC one was shot SA, the other DA.
